Being thankful for every small miracle
My friend that I have known since I was 18 years old has been in the ICU for the past 43 days
She was diagnosed with a Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST). At first the doctor thought it was just a polyp he will be removing from her stomach, but when he did the operation he only then discovered what was going on.
Long story short, she was in a coma for a few days, then sedated for the pain and her infection count going up and down. Good news and bad news, emotions going up and down and many many tears.
She has now been awake for the last 5 days and it was the most amazing feeling to walk into that hospital room today and see the eyes and the smile that I have been missing so much.
She still has a very very long road ahead of her fighting the cancer, but we are all positive and praying that step by step she will get there.
This all just made me think again today - how wonderful and extremely unpredictable life is, but most of all how honoured and blessed we are to have certain people in our lives... not to mention the power of prayer.
I just realised again that we must NEVER take people for granted - treasure every day you have with them, every smile and every gesture.
Some may think it is corny to say things like live your life to the fullest, appreciate every day with loved ones and cherish the moments inbetween.
I am living it at the moment and I know that we do not have to do major things to give our life meaning and jump and dive and travel (even thought those things are wonderful if you can do it), but simple things like a smile, a hug, a how are you, a look in the eyes of your cat or dog or child can make it all worthwhile.
So live to your fullest potential (no matter how great or small it is), and be happy and love those around you - we never know what tomorrow will bring, but no matter what it is, if you have someone or something to lean on (be it a human, an animal, a book or a stranger), do something every day that makes you happy and make you realize that you have a purpose.

I'm so sorry your friend has been on such a difficult road. Very glad she is awake and has a friend such as yourself there besides her in the road ahead. Your words are very true and hit home. Thank you for sharing. I'll be thinking of you two. ❤️
Thank you so much - she is a strong women and I have no doubt that she is going to get through all of this
