Freedom from hair root dyeing! Embracing my gray and surprise to me, I LOVE it!!

Going Gray can be Fun!!! Read on and see if you agree....

The decision to stop dyeing my roots and see what my gray hair looks like, just hit me quick! Why not do it? I started looking on Pinterest and there are SO many women with gray hair that look GREAT!!

Granted, some are younger than me, some have actually dyed it gray, but many are natural, maybe with a few hi or low lights added in. Uhh, even a little purple! Hey why not? I’m open to it all!

Approaching 60 (March 2018), I decided to definitely go with this transition and experiment with getting a partial foil as well. All sounded worth investigating to me. My plan was to see how I liked the new look and hopefully save some money by not going every few weeks but rather every few months for this process.

I asked my close friend, my boyfriend (at the time), and another friend (the friends stayed friends with me! lol) about growing out my gray, and the answers were all (at first) NO! lol

No one seemed to like the idea. But my independent nature ultimately does what it wants! lol It’s just nice to know when someone is rooting (no pun intended) for you!

My hair stylist and colorist both were open to it and work with me on this process!!

Ahh, freedom on it's way!!

So here it goes! First step: Hair cut on 6/16/17 cuts almost all the ol’ dyed hair off. It had been growing out for a couple of months so it was pretty much different colors - gray, dyed ends, and darker parts of my hair that are not super gray. Four days after the cut, the partial foiling!

Day after the haircut on 6/17:

Wow, is all I can say! Different shades of gray, some brown or a grayish brownish color in there too! Some of the tips around the crown, mostly the front and top of the head, still had some of the dark blonde/ light brown color from the last time I “box” dyed my hair. I had it all going on there! ;)

Of course my 96 ½ year old mother keep saying I look too old, as she figures out how she can keep dyeing her hair! It’s getting harder for her to bend over a sink at the hair salon at her assistant living home! See, I will not have to worry about that if I should be that lucky to live to my 90’s! Wow, is all I can say to that age. phew!

But I’m very happy that I have started this gray journey. It’s a hair foiling surprise and adventure :)

After (a few weeks later actually in this picture). But 6/21/17 was the big partial foil day.
… And I absolutely LOVE my hair! My stylist did a great job in blending hi lights and low lights with my gray and what was left of a light brown/dark blonde color on some of the tips. I’ve gotten more compliments and I myself, am VERY happy with the look!

I like my hair and that is THE most important opinion of all. Don’t you think? We have to like ourselves and be happy with who we are and what we want! The compliments are appreciated very much for sure, but seem to have much more meaning when we are happy with ourselves as well.
My colorist, Morgan, says we can experiment later but for now just keeping it simple with a partial foiling of two colors.

Yay!!! I’m not a prisoner to my roots any longer. I’ve been freed from the bondage of root dyeing! haha
It’s an enlightening experience that was the absolute right thing for me to do and I’m looking forward to adding … a bit of purple, oh did I say that? ;)

For now, I'm having fun trying on shades in between selling them at work! And instead of dyeing my roots, I'm staying rooted in the universe by following my heart and free spirit!
