Super Moms: Create Your Own Genius At Home

in #homeschooling7 years ago

Mothers have something like a superpower when it comes to organizing and managing things at home — we provide our families with physical, mental, social, emotional, even financial support.

Working Moms or Entrepreneur Moms? Even better: we like to make sure that every little detail is done right, and we have this specific ability to be able to manage a lot of things at once, while still staying on top of everything else.

As an online entrepreneur, I can work from anywhere in the world but I chose to work from home so I could be at the comfort of my own place while being productive at my own time and pace.

Here is something to help you to be successful in doing homeschooling: The Successful Homeschool Family Handbook.

Homeschooling is just one of the things I am able to do while working from home, and I’m proud that I’ve been able to do it really well, and with great results. Listed below are some of the benefits of homeschooling your kids:

One-on-One Study

Ever known other kids who go to class and then to a tutorial class after school? That’s not really uncommon, a lot of mothers would really like to make sure that their child performs well at school by paying for extra or tutorial classes, and the main activities involve making sure that the child fully understood the lessons for the day, finishing assignments, doing advanced readings or teaching other lessons in advance. The bottom line is to ensure that the child excels in class or get high grades in his/her quizzes.

The average class size in the U.S. is about 20–25, and that group is handled by a single teacher. Each section or class, depending on the school, can be categorized randomly or based on a specific metric such as academic ranking. Meaning to say, the first section, which is composed of the highly intelligent bunch in the group, could be separated by the other sections.

It is out of the question whether the child can really learn in school or not, but the real question is, in a large group such as in your child’s class, how confident are you that given all the external and internal circumstances involved in group dynamics, that your own child be able to really maximize his or her learning?

If you have a child age 0–11 years old, One-to-one: A Practical Guide to Learning at Home Age 0–11 might help you or for 11–18 years old, you can try Unqualified Education: A Practical Guide to Learning at Home Age 11–18.

Custom-made Education

There are three types of learners: visual learners, auditory learners, and kinesthetic learners — and suffice it to say that a group of 25 is composed of a combination of these three types. A teacher should be competent and creative enough to be able to engage these three types of learners all at the same time, while making sure to keep their attention for the duration of the class.

With homeschooling, you can be flexible with your chosen approach to education, and the schedule on which you wish to do this with your child.

There are a lot of modules and other resources you can use when you decide to do so, but the beauty of it is that you can design your own curriculum in such a way that will be more fitting for the needs of your child.

Applying your unique approach and strategies, you can make sure that study time does not only occur out of necessity — but because it is enjoyable and flexible, plus, it provides you with more time to bond with your child and teach him/her worthwhile lessons.

Consider your child’s own pace

Being your own boss when it comes to your child’s education, it can also mean that you have the ability to carefully gauge and adjust the pace according to your child’s capacity. In class, the teacher has to consider 25 kids while teaching — he or she cannot go too fast or too slow, nor can the teacher spend too much time on one student who might need more attention and neglect others in the process.

Homeschooling will be able to tell you and make you sure that your child completely understands each lesson, and adjust the pace accordingly. Just as you can be sure that your child’s attention is undivided during the lessons, your child can also appreciate that he/she has your undivided attention too.

Create your very own Abraham Lincoln

Abe Lincoln, the Great Emancipator, and the 16th President of the United States had been homeschooled as well. As a child stuck at home and unable to do anything about it, Abe’s needs for learning were never satisfied, until his father remarried. Abe’s stepmother loved reading; she eventually tried to introduce learning to Abe, and in less than a year, the bond they have formed have been so strong that Abe became her favorite among his other siblings, despite the fact that he was not even her own. Abe’s discovery about reading was a catalyst for him, and he was entirely grateful for his stepmother for homeschooling him. His love for books and knowledge blossomed, and he directly attributed it to the loving teacher that he had at home.

One-on-one study could really drive this point home; the world is your oyster, and you have all the resources available to make sure that the child sees this too. From the words of Mahatma Gandhi, “There is no school equal to a decent home, and no teacher equal to a virtuous parent.” If you can have the chance to homeschool your own child and create your own genius, how would you it?
