2 Vegan Cake Ideas from Cassava Ingredient
Cassava is known to have a high content of carbohydrates and fiber so it is good for diets. In addition, cassava can also be used as a substitute for rice in Asian communities, to keep blood sugar stable in diabetics.
This time I will share 2 types of Indonesian traditional cakes made from simple ingredients, and vegan choices for you.
'Lemet' Steamed Cassava Cakes With Brown Sugar
Cake wrapped in elongated shape with banana leaves is called LEMET.
The ingredients contain cassava, grated coconut, and brown sugar.
How to make it is very easy. We only need to grate cassava, then squeeze the cassava starch water.
After free from starch water, mix grated cassava with grated coconut. Then filled with brown sugar when the cake process is wrapped using banana leaves.
Then, steamed cakes wrapped in banana leaves.
'Getuk' Mashed Cassava with Brown Sugar Sprinkled with Coconut
Well, the second cake, called GETUK is not much different from the first one. But with the same ingredients.
If in the first recipe we have to grate cassava, then in this second recipe we don't need to grate cassava.
How to make it, we only need to mash steamed cassava, then mixed with brown sugar and then shaped like a snack bar, or can be formed according to your taste.
Shape the cake while the dough is still hot.
Serve with coconut topping after cutting the cakes into small pieces.
My cassava cake is wrapped in banana leaves for a longer storage process.
How are these two ideas, easy enough, right?
These are traditional cakes. Now still made by Indonesian people, especially rural communities who have a lot of cassava stock.
