What is emotional intelligence and why it is important?

If you think negative thoughts, your experiences are most likely to be negative. When we change our thoughts, we change our emotions and our experiences become more positive.  

Emotional intelligence is the capacity to be aware, control and express your emotions and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and em-pathetically.

Emotional intelligence is all about YOU!


Emotional intelligence is how you handle situations and treat people in your life. Some people are emotional intelligent enough to handle certain situations at young ages, while others never learn how to handle situations properly. 

Because we are in our final year of school, our teacher made a point this year to help us improve our emotional intelligence and to understand ourselves better. We did a short course with her and this definitely helped us, and taught us to handle certain situations in our lives better. 

We are the ones who have to go out in the world, and to to start our own lives, and knowing more and learning more about emotional intelligence have definitely helped us improve our self awareness and made us more equipped to handle what lies ahead.

Sometimes when our emotions take over it is very hard to control ourselves. It is important to learn how to control your emotions.  There are many ways that we can teach ourselves to become better people and not to react to a situation negatively. Although there are definitely situations that is out of our control, we can still learn to handle these situations more effectively.   

I am sure that you will find this helpful in so many ways.  Even if it just makes you think a little differently.  

Think about these questions long and hard.  Once you answered the questions it is time for you to start changing your life for the better. Remember that there should always be a balance in life.  All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.  Write down the answers to these questions and remember to BE HONEST!

  1. How do you handle stressful situations?
  2. How do you relate to other people?
  3. How fulfilled is your life at this stage?
  4. Do you need a new challenge?
  5. What is your physical health?
  6. How do you perform in school?
  7. How can you improve your life?
