Took a little time to go hunting and gathering

I bought a deer hunting license this year. Last weekend was opening weekend so I was hoping they rush would be over. There were still a few people out but it wasn’t too bad. The gun is my little lever action 30 30. It is light and easy to carry. Not going to get a 300 yard shot with it but that’s ok.

I just bought an antlerless tag so I am just looking to harvest some meat for the freezer not trophy hunting this year. I came upon one nice 2 point . He would have been legal but figured he needed to live on and grow .

When out hiking and hunting I always try to identify the plant life around me. This is good knowledge too have if you end up in a survival situation .
I came across a nice thicket of rose hips .

I plucked and ate a couple. One rose hip carries ten oranges worth of vitamin c. In a survival situation these lil red fruits would be a treasure.
I got in a nice long hike but I did not find the right shot today.

Enjoyed another awsome sunset on the road home.
