A Spontaneous Conversation 2-19-18
@sykochica kidnapped me! Well I'm glad she's back. We were chatting about some future projects on Discord and decided to record a discussion regarding the value in raising awareness of LGBT+ issues.
I see a lot of bro culture on the internet, among people who claim to hold socio-economic views which would indicate otherwise. I don't really see much separation from offline - or at least I think anthropology explains both. We have a rooted primal need to dominate one another. That it manifests as a sophisticated level of passive-aggression in modern times does not change what it is.
"The Law" is often no different. Neither voting nor going to prison will change anything. Not really. Because there are systems and institutions in place which carry on regardless of who does the exploitation and who goes to prison or death fighting it. And we clearly aren't revolutionaries, so the next best thing to storming the Capitol with torches and pitchforks is voting with your wallet.
The value in raising awareness goes without saying. Or at least it should. LGBT+ people are casually dehumanized so frequently in so many cultures, sifting through the stories every day is overwhelming. Knowing that most are comfortable with this status quo and some will lash out with predictable horror at any threat to their dominance is depressing.
I wish more of us had these conversations. Whatever your views, be honest and consistent with them.
