This is my assignment from week 5 for the teacher @alphafx, his lecture was a great pleasure for me.



Proof Of Capacity


The capacity test is a method that is used for cryptocurrency mining, this type of method consists of taking advantage of the storage space of a hard disk for cryptocurrency mining, instead of the proof of work (POW) method, the which is much more expensive in the use of energy and also because its complete permanent assistance is needed in the network, this system works in blockchain, this system is apparently new and for many users it is extremely unknown, this system is created to Take advantage of the hard disk space to store block resolution information before the block is solved, this allows the process to be much faster when mining starts, this process takes 4 minutes to solve a block, in turn the test work takes 10 minutes to solve a block.



Characteristics of the Proof of Capacity (POC).


* The proof of capacity is a much easier mechanism to maintain economically according to the electrical energy, compared to the proof of work.


* It is used in hard drives to retain information that will validate for the resolution of transactions and, in turn, the resolution of block chains.


* One of the most used projects in this system is BurstCoin and Chia.

How Proof of Capacity Works


The operation is based on the use of disk storage, this allows to retain information for the validation of transactions, this is done as follows.


Trace (Hard Drive Preparation).

For the layout or preparation of the disk we must have a hard disk, once we start with the procedure of entering nonces terms which is responsible for generating files, each nonces has a capacity of 256kb for the calculation of terms, it also has an amount Of 8192 hashs that are responsible for validating transactions by encryption, this process by grouping and forming pairs, forms scoops that are classified in 4096 different places which include data, and when the plotted file is created, it is linked to a specific cryptographic account, for this we need an account ID to create your nonces. Since all miners have different patch files and they cannot be interchanged.


Mining

When the information is stored inside the hard disk, through the scroops, the system itself begins with the distribution of hashs which are in charge of validating transactions through the ID of cryptocurrency accounts in this case Burstcoin, Spacemint or other.



Comparison between proof of capacity and proof of work


* The proof of work needs high hardware specialized in mining, many times these reach very high prices, otherwise this system that only uses a hard disk and we depend only on its storage space.


* One of the best benefits of Proof of capacity is that it can validate blocks in as little as 4 minutes and the proof of work does it in 10.


* much better performance than other systems.



Capacity testing projects.


* BurstCoin: this system uses the storage capacity of the disk, it is much cheaper than other systems since a hard disk is at low cost.


* SpaceMint: implements the consensus protocol, with a non-interactive part of proof of capacity, this is called "space test call", this system is difficult to perform.


* Permacoin: this uses proof of work the same as bitcoin.



Advantages and disadvantages of capacity testing



Advantage

* Economically speaking it is much cheaper than other systems.


* Great efficiency.


* It is a simple process and very easy to use.


* It is faster than other systems.

Disadvantages

* Many users today are creating remote contracts to entities that provide their services to rent storage equipment to implement this system.


* Malicious users can generate malware that causes annoyance on the hard drive.


* The Proof of Capacity hardly anyone knows about it.



Conclusión


This mining system occupies a very important part nowadays, particularly I did not know it, but I have realized that I can start mining in this way from the comfort of my home thanks to you professor, for implementing these very good topics for U.S. It was very helpful for me to participate.
