A MONUMENT IN JOS CITY, WHERE I GREW UP
This statue was named 'mama Tapgun' in hausa language, meaning _ Tapgun's mother. It was named after the governor that erected the statue, Governor Fidelis Naanmiap Tapgun who was governor elect of Plateau state from 1992-1993.
'Mama Tapgun' used to be one of the Landmarks in the city of Jos. It was erected in the center of the 'Jos main market' round about which was one of the biggest markets in West Africa - that's a story for another day.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STATUE
The statue shows a woman carrying a pan on head and also carrying a child. It was in respect of the 'woman', the woman played a vital role in the family. It's a typical scenerio on plateau state where the women play the role of the bread winners of the family
'Mama Tapgun' was uprooted from its place to an unknown location some years back.
