Trump warns Assad about 'recklessly attack' on Idlib
BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:35 A.M.) - U.S. President tweeted on Monday that Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad "must not recklessly attack Idlib Province," adding that this would be a grave humanitarian mistake by the Iranian and Russian governments if they let this happen.
"President Bashar al-Assad of Syria must not recklessly attack Idlib Province. The Russians and Iranians would be making a grave humanitarian mistake to take part in this potential human tragedy. Hundreds of thousands of people could be killed. Don’t let that happen!" Trump wrote on his Twitter page on Monday.
The U.S.' Ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, then followed up the Trump tweet by referencing chemical weapons.
"All eyes on the actions of Assad, Russia, and Iran in Idlib #chemicalweapons," she tweeted.
Trump and Haley's comments come just hours after the Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, arrived in Damascus to begin talks with the Syrian leadership.
