Protesters set Iranian consulate ablaze in Basra (video)
BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:45 P.M.) - Demonstrators torched the Iranian consulate in Basra on Friday, as protests calling for jobs, infrastructure and basic services continued.
Demonstrations have intensified since the death of 26-year-old activist Mekki Yasser, who died from the wounds he sustained in clashes on Monday.
At least five people were also reportedly killed during Tuesday's ensuing demonstrations.
Protests in the oil-rich province of Basra began in July and have been ongoing amid economic hardships, high unemployment rates and poor municipal services in the country.
