Trinity Cathedral in the monastery

From Russian history

So, we climb a mountain - a hill, the main hill in the city of Gorokhovets. At the top of this hill is the Holy Trinity Nicholas Monastery. During the founding of the city in 1168, on the site of today's monastery, there was a wooden fortress that protected the ancient Russian settlement. This is the highest point of the city and it offers a very beautiful and picturesque view.

By the time we climbed the mountain to the walls of the monastery, the weather began to change. Big black clouds appeared in the sky and the air smelled of rain. Rain began to pour just at the moment when we crossed the monastery wall through the gate above which is the small head of the gate church. On the one hand, the cold raindrops were invigorating and refreshing, on the other hand, it was getting a little cool. It was raining all over the Klyazma River and it seemed that the rest of the day would be lost and the sun would no longer peek out from behind the clouds.

But maybe forty or fifty minutes passed, when the rain ended and the sun came out again and the sky turned blue again.

While it was raining we were hiding under the porch of one of the churches in the monastery and looked at the Trinity Cathedral.

Trinity Cathedral was finally completed in 1681. Decorated with carved stone, tall and white, it looks majestic in the center of the monastery courtyard. By the way, the relics of Nikolai Ugodnik are lurking inside the cathedral.

In the Soviet years, the monastery was turned into a secular object, but in 1993 everything returned to normal. 73 years passed since the monastery was closed by the Soviet authorities in 1920. But since there was a film distribution warehouse on the territory of the monastery, this allowed not to destroy the monastery buildings too much.

And today we can enjoy the view of these ancient walls and domes with pleasure.

One of the last structures on the territory of the monastery is a chapel above the tomb of Peter Kozhin. This man was a local nobleman and a hero of the Crimean War. He was a wealthy man and helped the monastery in many ways. After his death, he was buried in the walls of the monastery.

Having walked near the walls of the monastery, we began to descend from the mountain. If we went up to the top of the mountain from the side of the city center, then we went down a special wooden staircase that leads directly from the embankment to the entrance to the monastery.

Descent with a lot of steps was more pleasant than a difficult climb. When we descended, there were courtyards of private houses and blooming fruit trees of apple and cherry trees.

It’s a pleasure to see it all. I recommend that you come and independently appreciate the beauty of this pearl of the Russian province, the quiet town of Gorokhovets, climb up the Pudge Mountain and view everything from above like me.

A bit about the photos in this post.

The fact is that many of my photos are panoramas. I collect them from several frames, which gives me quite a bit of trouble. But at the same time I get the opportunity to look wide angle. Get a more complete picture of the object. I hope you enjoy my panoramas.
