What are taxes and how can they benefit citizens?

Taxes are nothing more than the money paid for the provision of public services, for the proper functioning of terminals, improvement of streets and roads, among others. In this sense, taxes are paid to the state and the state is in the obligation to use that money to make the improvements that are needed at that moment, offering the people a good citizen security. In addition to covering the needs of the people, they must ensure a good social protection for retired people or people with disabilities.

According to Villegas (1990), taxes are the tribute demanded by the state, to those who are in the situations considered by the law as generating the obligation to pay the taxable event, for situations unrelated to any of the specific governmental action linked to the payers. Likewise, we can say that the tax is a tribute that must be paid to the state according to the annual salary that the person has, when we talk about the taxable event is when the obligation to pay the tax is born, with the purpose of complying with the law.

In general, paying each of the taxes required by the state, could guarantee benefits for citizens such as a good education for each of the children and adolescents, also the maintenance of hospitals in order to provide good protection at the time of an emergency, likewise citizens with their contribution expect to improve roads among other public services that allow them to have a better quality of life.

Finally, it can be said that, through the payment of taxes, required by the state, many improvements can be made in towns and cities, and thus be able to offer a better welfare to society. It is for this reason that it is important to be punctual with the payments of each tax because, through this, the proper functioning of the public services provided is guaranteed.
