This museum has so many interesting facets. The old streets of Detroit reconstructed, the Clancy train area is a hit with all ages and many additional permanent and temporary exhibits. The permanent exhibition of Detroit through the decades is fascinating touching on cultural as well as sports and political development. We particularly enjoyed the connection of Detroit to slavery and the Underground Railroad. Another favorite was the temporary exhibit explaining the implicitly of the famous riots or was it an uprising in 1967. Complete with a pre and post survey to determine if the presentation influenced your thinking.

What a thoughtful, thought-provoking, beautiful, and varied tribute to a city and its citizens! There is something here for everyone. The history of the city is presented via videos, photos, artifacts, and a full-size Detroit streets replica and always focuses on the people and how they both shaped and adapted to their city's stories. Yes, Detroit's music is here to be enjoyed, as are plenty of auto-manufacturing information and lots of attention to the success of Detroit's sports teams. But the Streets of Detroit will be the favorite of kids and adults alike. What fun to wander through history this way! Hopefully, all visitors who are able will feel as compelled as we did to donate an amount comparable to what would typically be an admission fee so that this gem can continue to offer its educational and enjoyable exhibits.

This is an excellent place to learn about Detroit's history, so many exhibits that display everything from music to automotive. The information ranges from the 1800's to more recent happenings. It's a great way to spend a few hours and its free, so you can always come back. It is not the best place for kids younger than 7/8 years old because of the size of the museum and the topics discussed.

This is an excellent museum to visit. The price is free, and the parking is $7. Of course, donations are requested.

Three levels of museum encompass pretty much everything that has to do with Detroit and the surrounding areas. Very fascinating.

They have a room about the riots of 67, the unions, of course, the history of all the automobile manufacturing. Everything was laid out very well.

Make sure you cover all three levels, or you will miss a piece of the history.

There are exhibits of cars (of course) in various stages of development and the factories themselves and so life in the surrounding city and the people it attracted. Thus architecture, music, politics, and sports seem to be inseparable pieces of "Motown."

The gift shop contains many books and interesting souvenirs which one may consider pricey but remember the price of admission! The staff is amiable and helpful.
