The flesh of the fruit decays and the juice begins to sour. Symbiotic cultures of bacteria and yeast feast on the sugars and excrete them to our alcoholic delight. As the organisms devour the sugars the environment becomes so overflowing with their own shit that they suffocate and die. Leaving only the essence of the fruit behind.

Alcohol is the spirit of the fruit and fermentation is the afterlife. In one sip we can experience the entirety of life: blossom, plum and prune.

The intoxicating nectar is both death and transcendence and for a moment we are the priests and priestesses imbibing the afterlife, consuming it as it consumes us. It reminds us where we came from and where we will someday return when our own bodies ferment and return to the soil and all that is left is our own humble contributions, the distillation of our own spirit.
