Musings on An American Pickle
I just recently got to watch an American Pickle which was a rather interesting and entertaining show. The show is about how a man fell into a vat of pickle. That vat has managed to somehow preserve him for the next 100 years.
While the show is rather entertaining, I think it could've been done better. That, however, is a post for another day. For today, I wonder what would you do if you were to wake up a 100 years later?
We May Just Catch On Faster
I think that if I were to wake up a hundred years later, I think I would be able to catch on to technology much faster than the character in the American Pickle. I suppose in terms of certain technology, we would have something that is similar instead of something that is completely different than 100 years before.
We May Get Depressed
Well, if the show is any indication, we may find that we have lost most of our love ones. Plus, the world may have turned into a more horrible place. I would imagine that food insecurity would be even more rampant.
At the same, there may be an even greater issue with climate change if things are left unchanged.
Or.. We May Have Found a Way
I believe that the human race is resilient in the sense that we will somehow manage to find a way around the problems we face. With the advancement of technology, we may one day find ways around food insecurity, climate change, and a host of other issues. We have been resilient thus far in combating a lot of problems that we see around the world. But as our environment deteriorates and the population grows. We may reach a tipping point where we may no longer be able to solve them anymore.
Conclusion
It's interesting how such a comedy has led to one thinking about the greater issues of the world. I think 2020 has been a year where we do look at the current issues of the world and wonder... What other problems are there out there. While it is a given to continue to find solutions to the current issues and solutions that we have. I think its also crucial that we find a way to continually innovate in each of our respective fields. We have to be updated in each of our industries in order to collectively solve the greater issues that are facing our people today.

I can't imagine waking up in 100 years, although I don't think it's humanly possible. Unless it's frozen, but, I think I saw that in a science fiction movie.
Not having any idea that we will get further ahead, seems to be a constant, although we can assume some things, in the future everything will always be subject to change.
But without a doubt, one is left with many expectations and questions from a program like that.
It's like I'm already gaining more interest in this kind of show. I think I'll have to start watching this too since there are lot of lessons and information to gain.
