GPU Benchmark - What you need to know about mining rig
Top crypto are beeing forked to avoid Asic mining that is unbalance the rewards. And algorithms is changing to be more energy efficient. We can already talk about green tech. Firsts crypto currencies were not optimized to prevent power overconsumption. New coins are a bit optimized. It allows anyone, even with a modest configuration to get some coins by joining a pool.
But to do so, you need a decent GPU and some investments...
What kind of GPU should you use to build your rig ?
First of all, let see how perform any GPU while mining :
| Config | GTX 1060 | GTX 1070 | GTX 1080 Ti | RX 480 | RX 580 | R9 390 | RX Vega 56 | RX Vega 64 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | 260 € | 470 € | 850 € | 300 € | 350 € | 300 € | 590 € | 650 € |
| Consumption | 180 w | 225 w | 330 w | 235 w | 240 w | 235 w | 370 w | 460 w |
| Eth Nicehash | 19.04 | 27.24 | 31.77 | 23.99 | 25.62 | 27.91 | 29.3 | 30.37 |
Most of rigs are built with 6 GPUs, but it is already expensive. So I made a simulation with 4 GPUs because I think that you may overcome 4 GPUs.
4 GPU Rig
You keep the total power of each GPU while adding an extra one. Do not forget that the price is approximative and you have to add at least 500 € more to get a motherboard, a CPU, some RAM and PCI risers to connect the all stuff on your motherboard.
| Config | 4 x GTX 1070 | 4 x GTX 1080 Ti | 4 x RX 480 | 4 x RX 580 | 4 x RX Vega 56 | 4 x RX Vega 64 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | 1800 € | 3400€ | 1200 € | 1400 € | 2360 € | 2600 € |
| Consumption | 900 w | 1320 w | 940 w | 960 w | 1480 w | 1840 w |
| Eth Nicehash | 108.96 | 127.08 | 95.96 | 102.48 | 117.2 | 121.48 |
Even if I show you an example with Ethereum Nicehash, you can change the currency you are mining and may be the results would be a bit different.
The best choice in my opinion would be the RX 580. Okay, it consumes more power than a GTX 1070 but the RX has the best value if you look at the price. Moreover, you can mine more kind of currency whereas the GTX does not. Thanks to OpenCL, Radeon gives you more possibilities.
Depending on the currency you mine, the GTX may be a good choice because you can optimize it (clock + voltage) and reduce the consumption while your hash rate increase. It performs as much as a GTX 1080 Ti in the end. But, if you don't want to trick, waste your time and have more possibilities, you should go to the RX 580.
