We're Back!
Today was the day that I finally got to purchase my new (second-hand) computer after weeks of being offline and to me, it felt like Christmas morning.
The purchase was made from a local computer franchise which I thought would be safer than purchasing via classifieds or, for instance, through ebay. Unfortunately, this was not the case and to be honest, I'm not convinced that the store wasn't aware of the issues, perhaps even using it as a ploy to draw an unsuspecting customer back to the store where the only option to rectify the situation would have been to spend more money on a more expensive machine.
The first problem I encountered was at power up, windows didn't load at all and the pc started to beep continuously indicating memory issues. After opening the box, I noticed there was a stick of RAM floating around loose.
Hmm, I don't think that's supposed to be there...
Turns out, the other stick wasn't installed properly either so I cleaned out all the slots and reinstalled both sticks of RAM. (Although, I suspect one is faulty so I need to do some testing to check which one). No biggie though cause they sell 2GB RAM for only $5.00 so it's not even worth the bother, I'll probably just pay $5 for a new one if they don't want to replace it.
While I still had the box opened, I also noticed that the hard-drive wasn't connected to power so I hooked that up and put the cover back on.
At this stage, I checked my receipt in case I had to return the whole unit for a refund and noticed that they hadn't even given me the correct receipt... d'oh!
Anyhoo, I started her up again and finally got to the windows loading screen. Oh joy...!
Next step, connect to Wifi... Check!
Open my browser... oh, no internet explorer?
Ok then... let's see if we can turn windows features on...?
error
Install Mozilla via cmd?
error
Reinstall windows...?
DLL error
Ran system file check via cmd - twice.
Downloaded missing DLL file and reinstalled windows... SUCCESS
Installed Mozilla from USB...?
And three flippin' hours later... I have a working PC and I'm online making a post.
Just as a side note, there is NO WAY the average person would have gotten past the initial beeping problem which is why I suspect it may be a ploy of some type. The 'kids' running the store would have no clue what to do, that's if they're even allowed to open the box and attempt a repair anyway.
Needless to say, I did a little happy dance after that.

Yeah, I struggled with not mentioning the store name in my post but I guess it could have been a somewhat honest mistake but that's a huge leap at best... problem is, the store is run by youngish teenagers that you know have nothing to do with the problem at hand (or underhand...!). To top it off, I'm pretty sure I would have been offered store credit rather than a refund so I'm super impressed that I got it working... it felt like a big 'middle finger' to culprit.
I haven't been for a computer store in ages, and the only reason I go now is to get parts to sort my own PC out. It's so good not having to rely on others for PC repair/builds.
If you can do that you can definitely build your own PC ;)
Actually, I'm now considering that idea, having the desktop again has sparked my interest that's for sure. At the very least, I'll replace the faulty RAM and add an extra 2GB but I'd like to attempt a full PC, else if just for the personal challenge.
You should give it a crack when you got the cash spare.
My advice.
If you buy I think it's motherboard/cpu/harddrive all together you can get OEM windows, which is much cheaper.

The only thing is to make sure everything is supported by the mother board, and everything will fit size wise.
If you need advice let me know, happy to help. I also double check with the guys as msy too and ask if this will support that etc.
Thanks for that @thevillan, I'll take a look at the site and check out their prices, try and ballpark a figure so to speak. It helps to know where to start and if you're happy with the dealings you've had with msy, that speaks volumes in itself.

Thank you @veryspider, it was torture to not be online... it made me realize how important the steemit community has become and how grateful I am to have found a place among so many wonderful and amazing people.
Computer problems are the worst but on the bright side, I spent some of that time in the studio and your recent post Lucky Kumo (and @shibasaki) inspired me to experiment with my water-color paints. I will share my artwork in a post when I have a photo to upload.
