Sagada Bonfire Festival
Sagada is famous for its hanging coffins, a traditional way of burying people.
Sagada Bonfire Festival is one of the most-awaited festivals in Sagada aside from the Panag-apoy Festival on All Saints Day, and Begnas Festival every thanksgiving on a good harvest. It is organized by the Sagada Genuine Guides Association.
Depending on what the association and the elders have been agreed upon, Sagada Bonfire Festival usually happens during the last week of December or even in New Year's Eve. One particular year, a music event was brought to the Mountain Province that features local and mostly independent performers.
We're hopeful that tourism explosion in Sagada will be addressed - a balance between introduction of the Sagada festivals and culture, and sustainable tourism for the locals.
This is amazing Sagada hanging coffins, nailed to the sides of cliffs high above the ground. For 2000 years the Igorot Tribes of Sagada in the Philippines have practiced a unique traditional burial ritual.
