Here is a refreshing (3 dimensional world) community idea!

in #art8 years ago (edited)

I went to a really cool thing tonight in the 3 dimensional world (ie. in person, not on a computer). It was a pop up, back alley jazz showcase. There was popcorn, drinks, tables set up and people just enjoying each other and the music. It was so simple. The musicians had a simple setup under a 10X10 tent and there was just a small PA putting the sound out.

As I was enjoying this, I realized that I personally have most of the things to set up an alley concert like this. Why aren't there more of these things? Why haven't I organized one of these yet? I am going to.

Here is a photo from my seat in the alley.

and here, if you turn your head 90 degrees sideways, do it, it will be fun... much more fun than me figuring out how to rotate photos on here. :P

You can see , if you successfully turned your head sideways, that there are quite a few sponsors that make this even happen. It doesn't need to be that way to make it happen though. All it takes is a few people that want to make something happen and they can make it happen.

So, here is a challenge for you. Try to make a public art event happen, the more casual the better, in your hometown. Preferably a chill, weeknight spectacle. Report back to me and I will be sure to reward you with a whopping 6 cent (give or take) upvote.

Also, let me know if you have anything like this happening in your home town. I am interested.

I pass lots of live performances walking through the city every day. Sometimes I wonder what they have to do to get buskers licences and permission to perform in one place or another. Smaller towns are probably a lot more laid-back about it, so long as you don't disturb any of the neighbours. Hopefully they'll come and watch.

It really makes a place a lot more 'alive' to have live music being played on the street.
