The EXPERIENCE of 2016

I had a lot of great experiences this year but in Romania, kayaking through Danube Delta 58 km was a very special one.
Just close your eyes for a moment and imagine you are in a kayak, your body only centimeters from the water. It's warm and sunny...and it's so much silence and calm around you.
The only sounds I could hear were the birds hidden in the nearby reed, the frogs staying near water lilies and the pedal from my hands, slowly touching the water. It was that moment when I felt that the world stopped for a second and I cannot be happier than that. Everything was just perfect. And it was just the beginning.

People from Danube Delta

After half a day we decided to camp. We were redirected to a traditional property built on a small piece of dry land in the middle of the waters. Our host invited us to go with him to check his fishing nets and get some fish for the traditional soup.
I understood then what sustainability is for this people and what should be for us, also. He took from the net only the necessary fish to make our food, nothing more.
I was amazed as I see daily people buying to much and throwing away food and here, where "education" means learning how to fish and how to ride a boat, they were much more aligned and respectful with the nature around them.

Life in Danube Delta

Being surrounded by thousands of different creatures, from birds to dragonflies in so many colors, from fishes to frogs singing on different voices and above all by a lot of mosquitoes, all living in such fragile balance I remembered once more how beautiful life is and how much we should care in protecting it, in all it's forms.

What is Danube Delta, where is it and how to get there

Danube Delta is that place where Danube river kisses the Black Sea. It is located in the eastern part of Romania and is a protected area of 4,152 km2 (1,603 sq mi).
Is home for many species of fish, birds and animals and has a large variety of landscapes. The one I've talked about in this post is the one covered by the waters but there are some places with a more dens soil where you can find old forests with wild horses or sand dunes that will make you run fast in a sunny day if you forgot to put on the shoes.

From Bucharest you can drive to Tulcea. From here, the only way forward is with a boat, either a large one, with stops only in the most important villages/ town on the way or with smaller ones, asking for customized experiences. The kayak is maybe a more extreme one, but if you are interested let me know and I will put you in contact with the ones creating this amazing trips.

@naquoya It is:) I believe all countries have this kind of hidden wonders that should get more attention.

Thank you for sharing. I have never seen images from the Danube Delta before. It looks like a beautiful part of the world.
