How far have you climbed?

in #freewrite8 years ago

Many years ago, one of my friends told me an advice that she had heard from her father

“When you are ascending high stairs, think about how far you have climbed rather than how far you still have to.”

This advice sounds simple, but consistently applying it can magically change your attitude about any task you are performing.

Thinking about the progress you have achieved is sort of appreciation you pay to yourself. You hold a positive mental image about yourself as well as the journey. It makes you feel in control, powerful, having a strong will and motivated. You feel more away from the starting point and closer to the end line. Quitting is not an option as you are not going to lose the accomplishment you are thinking about.

On the other hand, considering the effort you still have to do makes you feel heavier, powerless, and disappointed. The end line looks too far. The more you think of how far your goal is the more negative energy you create, the more likely you are going to quit.

This is the same as a gratitude practice. It can really shift your perspective...so true. :)
