Hi Steemit! // ¡Hola Steemit!

Hello Everyone! I just got my SteemIt account approved and I'm trying to get ahold of how this works. Have we made an agreement on the SteemIt demonym yet? I really like the Steemians one that @jaredwood used, I hope it sticks.

This is me with John, one of my cats. He's 9 years old as of last month. He was born and raised in my house, hasn't made any attempts to escape and go live somewhere else yet, so I must assume he's having a good life in here.

Glass Half Full

I went to college to become a journalist. Turns out journalism changed a lot during that time thanks to the internet and now we have people reporting in real time Twitter and blogs, and people streaming live from their cellphones. What an amazing time to be alive!

My work's been focused right in the point where content and technology converge, either by helping traditional outlets to the digital world or by letting the tech guys know an algorithm can't have (yet) the opinion or moral values of a human. Or at least that's what I tell myself.

Mount Roraima

I opened my first blog in 2005 and I still post from time to time, but since the arrival of social networks and micro-blogging it hasn't seen much movement for the past couple of years. We moved from long-form to short-form to micro-form content. Everything is a tap away (or even a swipe in some cases). SteemIt seemed like a nice way to start over at writing, posting and sharing, hopefully in a way Medium never got me to do.

So that's it for now, the first of many posts to come in this new decentralized hub in what might be the beginnings of a new internet. I'll be writing about Linux, Apple, Cryptocurrency mining, and obviously cats from time to time.

Follow me to get updates on my tech experiments, new music and photos. It'll be worth it.

¡Hola a todos! Recién me aprobaron mi cuenta en SteemIt y estoy tratando de entender cómo funciona esto. ¿Ya nos pusimos de acuerdo en un gentilicio para los usuarios de SteemIt? Me gusta la propuesta de @jaredwood de llamarnos Steemians, aunque queda definir como sería en español.

Aquí salgo con John, uno de mis gatos. Tiene 9 años desde el mes pasado. Nació y creció en mi casa y aún no ha hecho ningún intento de irse a vivir a otro lado, asi que debe estar pasándola bien aquí.

Vaso Medio Lleno

Fui a la universidad para hacerme periodista, pero resulta que el periodismo cambió mucho desde entonces y ahora la gente reporta en tiempo real a través de Twitter y blogs, mientras otros transmiten en vivo desde sus celulares. ¡Que buen momento para estar vivo!

Mi trabajo ha estado enfocado en el punto donde convergen los contenidos y la tecnología, sea al ayudar a medios tradicionales a transicionar al mundo digital o por ser el que le muestra a los programadores que (hasta ahora) ningún algoritmo puede reemplazar la moral y los valores de un humano (o a menos trato de convencerme de ello).

Abrí mi primer blog en 2005 y aún publico una que otra vez, pero desde la llegada de las redes sociales y el micro blogging mi blog no ha visto mucho movimiento. Hemos pasado de los artículos largos a los cortos y hasta las micro publicaciones. Todo esta a un toque de distancia. SteemIt mne parece una nueva e interesante forma de reconectarme con la escritura, el publicar y compartir, de una manera que Medium no logró en mi.

Eso es todo por ahora, el primero de muchos posts por venir en este nuevo centro descentralizado de lo que podría ser el principio de un nuevo internet. Estaré escribiendo acerca de Linux, Apple, criptomonedas y obviamente de gatos cada tanto.

Sigueme para recibir actualizaciones de mis experimentos tecnológicos, nueva música y fotos. Valdrá la pena.
