Rock Classics - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Today I'm in rock mood, oldschool rock. That's why I'm going to write about a band that's still active since the 60's, though a lot of its members have died. Actually, there is only one of the initial members and that is Gary Rossington. Now I realized that I did not mention the band. It is Lynyrd Skynyrd.
The band was founded in 1964 and was called The Noble Five. The name Lynyrd Skynyrd actually comes from Leonard Skinner the gym teacher who was against the long haul of the band members. They changed their name to Leonard Skinnerd and then to Lynyrd Skynyrd. They became friends with the teacher afterwards and also brought him on stage.
Their first album is called (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd' Skin-'nérd). I like the idea how they used the name. It brought them the glory. They were already known as the opening band for the concerts of The How. Through this album and the song Free Bird they became known.

heute bin ich in Rock Stimmung, altes Rock. Darum werde ich über eine Band schreiben die aus den 60er noch aktiv ist, obwohl sehr viele Mitglieder gestorben sind. Eigentlich gibt es nur ein einziger der anfangs Mitglieder und zwar Gary Rossington. Jetzt habe ich gemerkt das ich die Band nicht erwähnt habe. Es handelt sich um Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Die Band wurde eigentlich 1964 gegründet und hießen The Noble Five. Der Name Lynyrd Skynyrd kommt eigentlich von * Leonard Skinner* der Turnlehrer der gegen die lange Harre der Bandmitglieder war. Die haben seinen Namen in Leonard Skinnerd gewandelt und dann ins Lynyrd Skynyrd. Die haben sich danach befreundet mit dem Lehrer und auch ihm auf die Bühne gebracht.
Ihr erstes Album heißt (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd). Ich mag die Idee wie man den Namen eingesetzt hat. Es brachte ihnen auch den Ruhm. Die waren schon bekannt als Vorreiter Band für die Konzerte von The How. Durch diesen Album und dem Lied Free Bird wurden sie bekannt.

In 1977, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cassie Gaines died in a plane accident. The band then dissolved for 10 years. In 1987 there was a reboot with the little brother from Ronnie Van Zant, Johnny Van Zant as lead singer.
The reformed band also has a version of Simple Man.

Die reformierte Band hat auch eine Version von Simple Man.
On their second album Second Helping there is a song which is world famous and that has been covered by many. The song is called Sweet Home Alabama and is a musical response to the song Alabama by Neil Young.
No wonder Lynyrd Skynyrd is the protagonist of Southern Rock. They are the main character of this music style.
Auf ihrem zweiten Album Second Helping gibt es ein Lied das von viele gecovered worden ist. Das Lied heißt Sweet Home Alabama und ist eine musikalische Antwort zu dem Lied Alabama von Neil Young.
Kein Wunder das Lynyrd Skynyrd die Hauptfigur des Southern Rocks ist. Die sind die Hauptfigur dieser Musik Richtung.
This year they have their farewell tour. Unfortunately the tour will only take place in North America.
Dieses Jahr haben sie ihre Abschiedstour. Leider wird die Tour nur in Nord Amerika stattfinden.
Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the greatest bands in rock history. With Allman Brothers, they started to popularize the term "Southern Rock" and made it great during the 70s when some states in America were very identified with the music, but also the lyrics.
"Tuesday's Gone", "Simple Man" and "Free Bird" are some of my favourites. In my opinion, "Free Bird" is all what a band want to do in a song, first part is a lovely ballad and when it goes faster and faster it is an explosion of music!

I hope to see them on this tour! I've seen them twice before and they were special both times.
I think that if Ronny had lived the band would have evolved differently. But there is no doubt it is the quintessential Southern Rock Band. Thank you for a great review.
Yes, go for it! As it is their final! And yes, with Ronny living it would have been different!
Sometimes old music is better than the new one, well understood with some exceptions.I have not listened to this band yet, but it sounds good, thank you for sharing it with us.
