SegWit will soon appear on the Coinbase platform

Representatives of the leading American currency exchange Coinbase confirmed the information that platform services will begin to support SegWit technology. Earlier, the company's management claimed that improving the security and overall performance of the exchange is much more important than implementing SegWit.

"Our development team started the final testing phase of SegWit for bitcoin on Coinbase. Customers will be able to enter / output bitcoins using SegWit within a few weeks, "the official Twitter account says.

Due to the fact that SegWit is a unique solution to the problem of rapidly growing commissions in the network of bitcoins, CoinBase faced a huge amount of criticism from users. Literally the previous month, about 12,000 users signed a petition to initiate the introduction of technology into the services of the exchange.

"Many customers are asking to implement SegWit, and we are working to safely upgrade," said Dan Romero, the new vice president of the exchange, in December. "We store billions of dollars in bittocions, and any change in our infrastructure requires significant planning and consideration of security and stability factors."
In the absence of SegWit, the troubles that comprehend Coinbase users did not end: for example, the largest payment systems VISA and MasterCard approved an additional write-off of 5% commission for all payment operations to the platform (and this is taking into account the already existing 4% commission of Coinbase itself).
