Am going to be writing about the Horse under the following hints:

  • What is a horse?
  • What are the sexes of horse called?
  • What makes a horse special?
  • What is the horses habitat?
  • What does a horse eat?
  • How long can a horse live and the factors that affect the live span?

What is a horse?

A horse is a large mammal that eats plants and it can be wild or domesticated. The horse has a tail and a mane. It’s can be used to race, to ride on or to help in pulling loads.

What are the sexes of horse called?

The male horse that is matured is called a Stallion while th female is called a mare. The matured male which is used to breed is called a stud while the one that is casterated is called a gelding. The male horses are primarily kept for riding while the females are primarily kept to breed.

What makes a horse special?

Horses are unique creatures. They are known to be impressively beautiful and strong and they can show emotions on a wide range when they are either with humans or their fellow horses. They do well in social set ups and can communicate amazingly, this is why humans have a strong connection with them.

What is the horses habitat?

Habitat is simply a place of living. The habitat for wild horses is called a steppe and they can also live in the open grass land. The domesticated horses are kept in stables.

What does a horse eat?

Horses mainly feed on hays, roughages and pasture and stalks of grass. They can also feed on grain if there’s no sufficient hay and pasture. There may be no need for grains if the former is in abundance.

How long can a horse live?

A horse can live can up to 20-30 years and on some special occasions up to 40-50 years if they are well taken care of. There are some factors that will determine the life span of a horse and those factors includes:

  • Feeding: the horse should mainly be fed with grass and hays. The keeper should ensure that the feed is clean and free from dust. They should also ensure that there’s availability of water and the feed always so that they can eat when they want to.

  • Medication. The horse should be given proper medication including vaccines. Vaccines prevent them from catching rabies, influenzas, tatanus and other diseases associated with horses.

  • Housing: The house needs adequate housing to live longer. The keeper must ensure a good shelter to keep from excessive heat or cold. A barn or a closed shelter is advisable. The place must be cleaned at all time and the faeces of the horse cleaned all the time to avoid contamination.

  • Exercising. The horse should be involved in regular exercising. The horse hoofs should be trimmed from time to time. The state of the hoofs affects the horse. Horse shoes can be made available to reduce the risk of injuries.

There are other exciting things about the horse. Did u know that the horse can sleep while standing, the horse has an amazing hearing capability. It cannot breath through the mouth and the new born horse known as the foal can start running just few hours after it’s delivery. The horse is an exceptional and intelligent animal hence it’s ability to bond strongly with humans.
Thank you for joining me on this ride. I hope you enjoyed it. I want to invite @beewrites to join this contest and @usoro01. My warm regards and best wishes.

Thank you for taking part in this week's contest of "Choices."
You have done the topic "horse" justice with your post.

Tip: When you write a post with so much information that is not your own, it is always good to mention the sources you have used. Exactly as we had to do with school projects.

Good luck!
