[WRC]: Review of the Rally Finland 2018.

in #sports6 years ago

Hello to motorsport fans! After a short break, the World Rally Championship returns to us. This time the championship goes to Finland, on one of the most dangerous routes. These high-speed sections are full of winding areas, unexpected turns and high jumps.

The first day of the races was headed by Ott Tanak. The Estonian pilot won the fight at Mads Ostberg, ahead of him by 5.8 seconds. Early starts provided a little grip on the road, Ott Tanak started third, at that time most of the gravel was knocked off the track, but it did not stop. The day was tough for the leaders of the championship Thierry Neuville and Sebastian Ogier, they both started first, but the Belgian missed the turn at the crossroads and lost a lot of time finishing in the end 10th. Ogier was luckier, he did not risk and finished a minute ahead of the competitor, but it did not help him to get even in the Top 5, the Frenchman became the seventh. Three-time winner of Finland Rally Jari-Matti Latvala was third, finishing 17.3 seconds later than Ostberg. Hayden Paddon was the best of the Hyundai team, the Australian became the fourth.

On the second day of the races Ott Tanak continued to dominate. A series of five consecutive wins in speed tests ensured him a break in 39 seconds. from Mads Ostberg. The Norwegian had a comfortable enough 20-second lead from Jari-Mati Latvala, but the decision on an additional spare wheel played into the hands of the Finn, as Citroen Mads Ostberg became heavier and lost precious seconds. Sebastian Ogier could not get used to the new shock absorbers and aerodynamic package, as a result the Frenchman lacked confidence on the track. Thierry Neuville could not recover from the mistakes made on Friday and could not rise above the 10th place.

On Sunday, Ott Tanak kept his lead from the nearest pursuer, Mads Ostberg, and won the Rally of Finland, this is the second victory of the Estonians this season. After two unsuccessful stages, he won for the first time on the fastest track in the championship calendar. Ostberg remained to keep the second line in the fight against Latvala. The Norwegian was better at the Power Stage, where he scored four bonus points and eventually the Finn got the third line. Hayden Paddon retained the fourth place, but Sebastian Ogier managed to break through to the fifth place, and Thierry Neuville managed to rise only to the ninth place.

So, after the 8th stage, Sebastien Ogier narrowed the gap from Thierry Neuville to 21 points, and Ott Tanak took the third place.

August 16 - 19 WRC will go to the asphalt roads in Germany.
