BANGER OF THE WEEK: Pound Foolish

It's not a book that really teaches you financial literacy - it's getting burned and losing several thousand dollars. I'm happy that I've learned that early in my life and that I won't have to again any time soon. However, many people are not that lucky and they fall prey to the personal finance industry through their own fault or no.

This book explains the sneaking suspicion that I always had about people teaching financial success. From university professors to self-help gurus, the book debunks the purported expertise of many a charlatan. It made me feel stupid for thinking the knowledge to making money is locked away in books or any type of activity other than handling money.

I didn't learn anything I didn't already know about managing my money from this series of books. What I did learn, however, is that there exists a world of unsavory characters out there whose job it is, as Matthew McConaughey said in Wolf of Wall Street: "To move money from the client's pocket into your pocket. Nobody knows which way the market is going to go."

The book is fantastically written and communicates a message I should've learned a long time ago. BANGER OF THE WEEK.
