Segundo intento contra la bestia

La noche se hizo lenta, en las mentes de los tres líderes no se desvaneció el pensamiento de los 14 agentes que habían perdido la vida ese mismo día, el techo de sus habitaciones parecía convertirse en un pequeño laberinto, construido a pequeña escala y con gran cantidad de detalles. El problema del nuevo intruso les invadió la mente, y prácticamente les hizo olvidar cualquier otro inconveniente que tuvieran en el templo central. Jonas se durmió bastante tarde, soñó como cada uno de los tentáculos que salían del laberinto en su techo, se iban acercando cada vez más a su rostro, descubriendo en sus extremos una espantosa boca colmada de dientes filosos y manchados de sangre. No lo devoró de una vez, simplemente lo observó, comenzó a deslizarse por todo su cuerpo, manifestando su presencia fuertemente, lo rodeo y lo comenzó a estrangular hasta el punto de tenerlo completamente inmóvil, Jonas hacia todo lo posible por salirse de tan horrible situación, pero no lo lograba, y justo en el momento en el que vio su reflejo en el espejo principal de su habitación, la criatura lo ataco ferozmente en su rostro, lo cual lo despertó inmediatamente.

Al ver por la ventana se percató del inicio del amanecer, no había tiempo para seguir descansando, tenía que encontrar una solución. Se paró apresuradamente de su cama y comenzó a buscar entre sus mapas, los cuales solía guardar en una caja de madera bastante antigua, escondida en un compartimiento secreto que tenía el techo de su habitación. Con todos los mapas en mano, comenzó a comparar cada uno de los diseños del laberinto que habían realizado distintos artistas a lo largo de la historia. El mapa original se extravió de las manos del creador, se presume que fue quemado, pero en realidad nadie pudo nunca asegurar nada acerca de su paradero.

Los mapas que tenia no eran más que los bocetos que habían realizado algunos miembros del pasado, poco a poco fueron actualizando el mapa hasta casi obtener el original, mucho piensan que el mapa nunca fue completado, y que aún quedan zonas ocultas que quizá también se pudiesen comportar como portales, pero eran solo rumores de pasillo, leyendas urbanas. Jonas estaba enfocado en algo más que las suposiciones de los crédulos, estaba buscando rutas alternas, caminos óptimos, estrategias de ataque; todo lo que le fuese de ayuda a las tropas de control de criaturas. Necesitaba que la próxima emboscada fuese exitosa, no podía permitir que la estadía en el templo central se alargara de tal forma que pusiera en peligro la confidencialidad y discreción de toda la organización.

La tensión continuaba en aumento en todo el castillo, el tema principal de todas las comidas era la misteriosa criatura del laberinto, sus víctimas y especulaciones acerca de lo que realmente pudiese ser. Pocos días después y bajo la aprobación de la Asamblea General, se dispuso todo lo necesario para dar inicio a un nuevo ataque. Esta vez estarían mejores armados, con las armas de alto voltaje más modernas de la organización, y contarían con 50 miembros. La estrategia sería similar, se dividirían en dos grupos uno de 20 y otro de 30, atacando por lo las entradas alfa y beta respectivamente. La idea de todo esto era concentrar la mayor fuerza en neutralizar primero uno de los tentáculos, y luego de haber cumplido este objetivo, utilizar el factor sorpresa con los otros 20 agentes para terminar de destruir la bestia por el otro extremo, sin esperar demasiado y sin ningún tipo de contemplación, sea cual sea el resultado del primer ataque.

Lin y Frederick ordenador preparar las adaycencias del laberinto con tropas de apoyo, especialistas en primeros auxilios y estaciones de radio para captar claramente cualquier mensaje que quisieran transmitir los agentes desde el centro de ataques. Finalmente las tropas de dispusieron en cada uno de los extremos de laberinto, estuvieron atentos a las indicaciones de Jonas acerca del camino que deberían tomar, las rutas alternas y las vías de escape rápido mas cercanas que tenían en el lugar que habían estimado para el ataque. Entraron ordenadamente , siendo cautelosos y firmes en cada camino que tomaban. A pocos minutos de haber entrado, recibieron la señal del primer avistamiento de la bestia, para los lideres, esto fue una gran sorpresa ya que en laoperacion anterior el avistamiento se dio mucho mas tarde, o lo que es lo mismo, mucho mas adentro del laberinto. Estas eran pésimas noticias, habían demostrado que, en efecto, la criatura cada vez se iba metiendo mas por el portal, y por lo tanto sus tentáculos ganaban peligrosos metros de alcance mortal.

Lamentablemente las cosas no sucedieron como pensaban. Los ataques se dieron según lo estipulado en el plan original, pero la bestia solia ser en todos los casos, mucho mas fuerte de lo que se pensaba, tenia habilidades ocultas que sorprendían a los agentes, dejándolos indefensos ante sus poderosos tentáculos secundarios. En el jardín se recibin señales intermitentes nada alentadoras, se podían escuchar sus gritos y sus desesperados intentos por defenderse todos en conjunto y salir ilesos de la situacion. Esto duro unos cuantos minutos, la tropa de los 20 agentes ya se había adentrado cuando todo comenzó a salir mal. Hicieron todo lo posible para comunicarse con ellos y hacer que regresaran inmediatamente, pero fue imposible. El salgo final de victimas para esa jornada fue de 16 miembros de cada extremo, un total de 32 víctimas de Speculum.

Second attempt against the beast

The night became slow, in the minds of the three leaders the thoughts of the 14 agents who had lost their lives that same day did not fade, the roof of their rooms seemed to become a small labyrinth, built on a small scale and with lots of details. The problem of the new intruder invaded their minds, and practically made them forget any other inconvenience they had in the central temple. Jonas fell asleep quite late, dreamed as each of the tentacles that came out of the labyrinth on his roof, were getting closer and closer to his face, discovering at its ends a frightful mouth filled with sharp teeth and stained with blood. He did not devour it at once, he simply observed it, he began to slide all over his body, manifesting his presence strongly, he surrounded it and began to strangle it to the point of having it completely immobile, Jonas towards everything possible to get out of such a horrible situation, but he did not succeed, and just at the moment he saw his reflection in the main mirror of his room, the creature attacked him ferociously in his face, which immediately woke him up.

As he looked out the window he saw the beginning of the dawn, there was no time to rest any longer, he had to find a solution. He hastily stopped from his bed and began to search through his maps, which he used to keep in a rather old wooden box, hidden in a secret compartment on the ceiling of his room. With all the maps in hand, he began to compare each of the labyrinth designs made by different artists throughout history. The original map was lost from the hands of the creator, it is presumed that it was burned, but in reality nobody could ever assure anything about its whereabouts.

The maps that I had were nothing more than the sketches that some members of the past had made, little by little they were updating the map until almost obtaining the original one, many think that the map was never completed, and that there are still hidden zones that perhaps could also behave like portals, but they were only rumors of corridor, urban legends. Jonas was focused on more than the gullible's assumptions, he was looking for alternate routes, optimal paths, attack strategies; anything that would help the creature control troops. He needed the next ambush to be successful, he could not allow the stay in the central temple to be extended in such a way as to jeopardize the confidentiality and discretion of the entire organization.

Tension continued to rise throughout the castle, the main theme of all meals being the mysterious creature of the labyrinth, its victims, and speculation as to what it might really be. A few days later, and under the approval of the General Assembly, everything was put in place to launch a new attack. This time they would be better armed, with the most modern high-voltage weapons in the organization, and would have 50 members. The strategy would be similar, would be divided into two groups of 20 and 30, attacking by the alpha and beta entries respectively. The idea of all this was to concentrate the greater force in neutralizing first one of the tentacles, and after having fulfilled this objective, to use the surprise factor with the other 20 agents to finish destroying the beast by the other extreme, without waiting too much and without any type of contemplation, whatever the result of the first attack.

Lin and Frederick computer prepare the adaycencias of the labyrinth with support troops, specialists in first aid and radio stations to clearly capture any message that the agents would like to transmit from the center of attacks. Eventually, the troops at each end of the labyrinth were attentive to Jonas's indications about the path they should take, the alternate routes and the nearest rapid escape routes they had in the place they had estimated for the attack. They entered in an orderly fashion, being cautious and firm on every road they took. A few minutes after entering, they received the signal of the first sighting of the beast, for the leaders, this was a big surprise because in the previous operation the sighting occurred much later, or what is the same, much more inside the labyrinth. This was terrible news, they had demonstrated that, in effect, the creature was getting more and more through the portal, and therefore its tentacles gained dangerous meters of deadly range.

Unfortunately things didn't happen as they thought. The attacks took place as stipulated in the original plan, but the beast used to be in all cases, much stronger than was thought, had hidden abilities that surprised the agents, leaving them defenseless against their powerful secondary tentacles. In the garden they received intermittent signs that were not encouraging, their cries could be heard and their desperate attempts to defend themselves together and leave the situation unscathed. This lasted a few minutes, the troop of 20 agents had already entered when everything began to go wrong. They did everything possible to communicate with them and get them back immediately, but it was impossible. The final number of victims for that day was 16 at each end, a total of 32 Speculum victims.
