Motivation And Inspiration Aren't Drugs Or Porn

in #steempress5 years ago

I was just watching this video on YouTube by the channel, Absolute Motivation. It's a video featuring Jim Carrey.

Sounds super clichéd right?

A channel that aims to motivate people.

A video featuring a celebrity.

All of it constructed to push you to do make shit happen for your life.

However, this video is a little different.

If you noticed of late, the advice by Jim Carrey has been rather weird. Google him and you'll know. It's controversial, to say the least.

In a pinned message in the comments section of the video, the channel owner wrote this:

"Motivation is essential in life but motivation on its own kind of becomes like a drug or like going on a porn site to get an emotion rush and then going on about your day. This is the reason I try my best to focus on putting a mixture of philosophical content within the motivational stuff. It is all about balance.

I myself don't agree with everything Jim Carrey says or even does. And that's okay, we don't need to idolise him to see that some of the stuff he says has objective value. Try to keep an open mind. There is so much in this world that we don't know and that not even science can answer or religion so, instead of thinking we know everything lets become curious sponges and listen to all perspectives."

I fucking love it.

That's the main problem today when it comes to motivation and inspiration.

People treat them like drugs and porn. They want to get high from it every now and then.

With that, what disgusts me is how some wannabe motivational and inspirational people treat regular people as nothing contrived sources, mere objects to motivate and inspire.

This is when YouTubers make a whole video out of helping some homeless or handicapped person.

The YouTuber then fucks off and disappears forever, just like how people seeking motivation and inspiration fucks off after feeling that one-time high.

It's about time we stop this shit.

They aren't drugs or porn.

Soak them in all you like, but humble yourself so you can value a new kind of perspective, one which is within another person's mind.

Find that balance to see that there is no one source of inspiration.

Hell, realize that even the times you were unhappy or will be unhappy are essential moments in life which will make you better and who you are today for a grander purpose that is even bigger than your life itself.

Porn and drugs are fleeting.

Humbling yourself to keep learning and embracing the darkness in life stay forever.
