Jatiya Party (JP) Chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad said that tax should be waived in the unprocessed areas.
He expressed this view while interacting with the newly elected mayor and councilors of Rangpur City Corporation on Saturday at the City Hall auditorium.
Ershad said, "Rangpur city corporation is the country's big city corporation. There are no progress of development in the villages of the city of 205 square kilometers, electricity is not there, electricity is not there. But they still have to pay taxes. That's not right. People in the deprived areas of the development will have to waive taxes.
He said, Shyamasundari canal has been occupied. The odor can not go around the canal. The purpose with which it was excavated has been hampered. Ershad gave a call to the mayor of the city to bring back the old tradition, including the flow of water in the Shyamasundari canal.
Chaired by City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, the meeting was addressed among others by Jatiya Party Secretary General Ruhul Amin Howlader, party's co-chairman GM Quader, Presidium member Zia Uddin Bablu and all the councilors.
In the speech of the President, Mayor Mostafizar prayed for the overall development of Rangpur city including the Prime Minister.
