My socks grows slowly slowly /
I don't have much progress to show but I couldn't help participating in this week's #needleworkmonday after one week of absence ;) It's a great community!
I finished the heel part of the second socks. It is the most difficult part of knitting socks together with toe. Now just I have to k p k p k p ... until it has same length as the first one has. Yeah! It will be done soon :)
I was knitting the socks on a tram, on a train, at cafe. It's quite handy. Some people, mostly ladies and kids, talked to me "What are you knitting?" I was happy to try to explain my socks in German and enjoyed small talks.
Some notes for the next time:
- Yarn: toe and heel can be separate yarn with a single color (stronger yarn can be an option to make it long lasting.) /
- General: plain k instead of k p (rib) especially yarn with print. But can it be fitting enough? /
- Toe: initial stitch is 12 x2 (Judy's Magic Cast On), increase to 30 x2.
- 60 rows after toe until heel /
- Heel: short row reducing to 12.
I wish I can finish it this week and start my first weaving project this weekend.
One small advertisement: When you bake bread in between your needlework and write about it, add # breadbakers tag to your post :) I learned a lot from NeedleworkMonday and wanted to start a bread baking community on Steemit.
#NeedleWorkMonday is initiated by @crosheille and @crystalize. Now it has its own account @needleworkmonday. Thank you for hosting a wonderful & fun weekly tag!

Looks great! And a sock as a knitting project is just the right size to take with you for knitting-on-the-go :)
What kind of short rows do you use? I know there is a Japanese way to do them but I never investigated how they work. I still use the German short rows that I was taught years ago - all my knitting world browsing and looking at "wrap and turn" and "shadow wrap" only confirmed my opinion that those are more complicated and not as nifty.
Wow I didn't know there are various short row techniques. And even there is a Japanese one! I must read about it. The short rows I made is simple: knit until the last stitch of active stitches, turn, slip a stitch and purl until the last active stitches. I followed the instruction of Lifestyle Toe Up Socks.
Talking about short rows, I once knit a cat full of short rows.
Now I want to knit at rainbow cat with Schoppel yarn :D
oh yeees!!! Rainbow cat. But this grey one is also super cute. I love her nose <3
Gray is good for a small person ... stains are almost invisible ;)
amazing cat !!!!!
I made it as my pillow for traveling but it turned to be my daughters toy these days ;)
not surprised !!!! the cat is wonderful !!!!
FYI @tali72! :
Ravelry: Jingga the Orange Tabby Cat pattern by Dyah Dyanita
Oooooh! thank!!!! I need to have the courage to knit such a cat :)

They look really warm already, @akipponn ! The best thing is that they're made to measure :D
That's right. I have two pairs of wool socks I bought from a store I think it was for 39-42 and a bit big for me. They are fine at home but when I try to wear boots the size becomes troublesome. It's really nice that we can make socks, clothes etc fit for us also preference wise by making our own :)
Ooo so pretty the colours! The socks look really soft and it is so fun that you can knit anywhere and strike a good conversation :) And you make me want to try baking bread now :)
I'm often quite shy to talk to people especially in a foreign language but with knitting it becomes not difficult at all :) And yeah here is another needle work baker! Bake bake @marblely :) I look forward to seeing your bread 🍞
On the other hand knitting is kind of a barrier for me. I can't stand lots of people for a long time but give me something to knit and crochet and I'm happily sitting at the edge of the crowd, observing them and participating in conversation
I agree with you. Sometimes I'm happy to have something in my hand too.

I really like how you do it. socks will be very cute. I have never knitted them with your method, but I knit the other way around: from top to bottom and on five needles. I also often have similar situations because I also do knitting wherever I go :) only I need to explain what I do in Hebrew. I can not boast that I am good at it :)
Maybe ten knitter ten ways of knitting socks :) I have one from my boyfriend's grandma on my desk now and it's knitted in a different way. Knitting/crocheting is worldwide, probably that's why it's a good conversation starter.
If you ask me I would magic cast on the heel then separate yarn to make it long lasting. After this I would increase Judy to 30 to get her fitting :-DDDD Oh, I forgot: now put everything into the oven :-D
Ok... you already know, I have not a clue about sock knitting but I love your socks, the yarn is beautiful and they look very neat (I especially like the turquoise at the heel)
And I am very curious about the weaving project (as you can imagine )!!!!
Knitting socks is practical, fun and quite simple for most of the parts. It's a good side project :) And I can be brave to wear bright colors, which is needed for the cold dark winter but too shy to wear as a sweater ... I tend to wear black and dark blue.
Yes weaving comes next. Thanks to your & @muscara' advice on Discord, I start my weaving adventure. I will make a small textile with a cardboard loom :)
I’ll tackle knitted socks one day in the future. Your socks are really cute.
Thanks jluvs2fly :) Color & warmth certainly help you to survive winter.
