Why Do I Create (Art)?

in #art5 years ago
  • It's All About The Joy! : Plain and simple. For me creating (visual) art has always been about having fun and it's also the reason why the little me fell in love with it in the first place! It is living in the moment, doing in the moment and creating IN the moment. Just like dancing but with some tools ;) The thought of being around colors, mixing and testing them and creating my happy mess is always a wave of excitement to me. Now I am not saying that you will find me painting every single day because after all I am only human, and there are days where I don't make art. But then it is not a chore, right?

  • Expressive: Art has been my strongest medium of expression when I compare it to other forms like music, writing, dancing etc. I do enjoy writing now and then but I feel I convey more openly and translate my thoughts to paper while painting/sketching/doodling (whatever). There is a complete sense of freedom when I am in my zone and zero fear of judgement. And a person is most genuine and true to self when there is no such fear.

  • An Emotional Release: I can't recall the number of times I have been grateful for finding a strong emotional connection with visual arts (from an early age). As I grew up, I understood that it's not only about "painting when you are happy" or "feeling content once you are done". It is much more about the variety of emotions with which you enter the world of art as an individual, longing to express them all in your art work. Emotions that are concealed within the depths of your heart and soul, that you just don't reveal to anyone in your life but somehow manage to release them with the utmost ease, not in terms of words or actions but through colors, pencils or any tools, that are forever contained in that art piece, never to be mentioned again.

  • Meditative & Healing: I am suddenly reminded of these lines from Doctor Strange when the Ancient One says - You cannot beat a river into submission. You have to surrender to its current and use its power as your own. Strangely, it clicked to me that this is what it is - to feel, use and be art. It's so paradoxical in that, you experience this, almost transcendental sort of a state where despite having no control over anything, you feel as though you've never been more in control.

I generally don't talk about these things but I was in a rather introspective state today and felt like I could use some writing :) It's good to sit and reflect on some integral parts of your life.. I suppose. What do you guys think?

@aishwarya Hey new to your account... Read your article and that's fab =) Keep it up.. And in my opinion art is very close to God as that's something which is made new unstead of doing business with some strategies or tricks... Thanks =)
