Manos a la obra // Labour Day

in Reflexiones de Vida4 months ago (edited)

What works every day non-stop, except during unfavourable weather conditions or when it meets its end?
These are the set of workers whose labour day is every day.

Hello, fellow art lovers!
It is another perfect moment to put paper and paint together. For this week's contest, the task is to paint something creative for Labour Day.

As you know, Labour Day, also known as International Workers' Day is a yearly event held every first day of May to celebrate members of the working class for their contribution to the growth of society.

You will agree that the labour force contributes to the prosperity of any nation. It boosts the economy by performing specific jobs, facilitating the distribution of goods and services, as well as generating income for individuals and businesses.

Today, I am excited to join you and the rest of the world to honour people who work daily across all sectors, from traders to teachers, doctors to content creators, navy to techies. Without them, our economies would not be running smoothly.

The finished work

This image is a simplistic representation of workers. It is inspired by the saying, "Go to the ant, you sluggard, and consider her ways. In three easy steps, I will show you this was created, including what inspired me to paint this scene.

Time to draw and paint!

Step 1: Gathered my materials

  • A4 paper
  • Coloured pens
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Eraser

Step 2: Sketch the background.

After sketching

I started by drawing diagonal lines to form a rail of a bridge. Then added an ant picking an apple, sun behind clouds and a calendar reflecting today's date.

Ants and worker bees are known for their positive contribution to the growth and survival of their colonies. Because ants are very strong, they work together to gather food in order to store away for rainy days.

Worker bees, on the other hand, do all the work in the hive. They feed the queen, drones and larvae, clean, build honeycombs, and collect the pollen and nectar used in making the wax.

To add a human element to this, I added a labourer's cap on the calendar. Probably forgotten after constructing the bridge, who knows?

Step 3: Colour the objects

My selfie with the finished work

I paid attention to pick colours that match each item; black for the bridge, blue for the clouds, etc. Each colour is carefully selected to give a vibrant appearance. I even added a blush to the ant's cheek just to ensure that it looks happy while working for the better good of its colony.

This marks the end of today's drawing and painting contest. I hate to go now. But permit me to pass the gamut to @wainbear, @chilaw, and @chiomi.

As we honour workers around the globe, please let us ensure that their rights are protected, including those belonging to our beloved ant and bee here. Ciao!
