ESPAÑOL O ENGLISH
According to the Cervantes Institute, Spanish as the mother tongue is used by 410 million people, English 375 million, according to the British Council, although the advantage of this as a second language is incomparable. But diplomacy is an area that still resists Castilian. And I should not. At least if we take into account the figures. We can not fail to mention the French - with some 74 million native speakers and some 220 million in total - still take the lead in European and multilateral institutions. Academics, diplomats and Spanish-speaking politicians agree, however, that our language deserves greater weight in international relations and forums. But does the Spanish already have conditions to be placed in the lead squad next to English and French? Can it do so in the current circumstances? Could it even replace French? Those consulted argue that it meets the theoretical conditions, but think it will not happen for now because of the tradition, the strength of the Francophony and the refusal of the authorities (at least the Spanish) to launch a full-fledged offensive. Diplomatic language remains a paradigm, although there are great advances.![ingles o español.jpg]
