Not bad or good? - Stupid comment time
Sometimes when i post something on my facebook art page,
occasionally i get some smart comments like : "not bad".
This is what happened yesterday, when i posted this pillow.
I think saying " not bad" is pretty lame. It is definitely not a compliment
nor an opinion. So why bother saying something like that?
My response was : " Is that almost good? "
(By the way this is an old lady giving me these far-fetched comments.)
I would like to know what you think on this!

Meh, for me anything anyone says to me online is just their opinion and my trying to decide if it is good or bad is one more moment I'm not just enjoying my own thoughts and opinions. I learned to not care what others think or to try and figure out what others 'mean' years ago. Life is too fun and good to let it get bad from off hand remarks.
If you love it then it is loved and send it out to the world and care little what other's say. That's my motto.

This pillow is really "not bad" - I could even say it is fantastic! I love it. I understand that not bad without explenation means that it is not bad BUT also not good... I can say it is not bad - it is well done job! :D
Well, when I moved to France, I learned that not bad (pas mal) was a real compliment. I think your cushion cover is charming and fanciful.
I get thumbs down on some youtube videos before there are views... and that sums up social media. Do what you will, as you will, without regard of other opinions... part of the artist creed.
By the way I think it's cool..to me your art is unique and that is also a part of the artist code.

I know this type of behaviour. They might think that this is a compliment but imho is not. Not bad means good, right? So why not say good instead of this stupid "not bad"?

You shouldn't be overthinking it. But since you already did, here's a small explanation:
While in the USA it usually means "average" or OK, in the UK it typically means "good".
Don't let the fact that Americans keep butchering the English language demoralise you. Your work is good and you know it.
I bet that lady means "pretty good" as that is what British people mean when they say "not bad.”
As @kathleenscarboro wrote it, in France it means good, the thing is, people that tell not bad instead of good are just having some issues to express a genuine appreciation to other people...some people are like that, they just don't know how to tell things
and there is no need to waste time to analyze or overthink that, just remember that it speaks about them, not about your work ;-)
By the way, I find this cute cushion fantastic ! ^_^ You see, I have no problem to GIVE an enthusiastic appreciation because I am a positive and cheerful person, but nevermind my opinion or an other one, and
never let anyone make you feel less than super happy about your art if this is how you feel about it ;-)
