Can't Save in Notepad?

Few days ago, one of my office-mate called me to setup his email's signature in Thunderbird. One of the many ways to setup a signature in Thunderbird is by linking a text file to Thunderbird containing all the information about the email user. Text files can be easily made by using Notepad.

Here's the situation

I opened Notepad then put all the information he needs for his email's signature such as his full name, position in the company, his department, his trunk-line, his company cellular number and the company disclaimer (I am doing in his laptop).

To my surprise when I am about to save the file in his computer Notepad was unable to write on his computer's drive, I tried his documents' folder, no success. I tried to save the file on his root drive which is drive C, no success.

I did check his account if he is the administrator of the laptop that he is using since it was a laptop issued by the company. To my surprise, he is. The next step that I did is to open an existing text file on his laptop and I changed the file's security to "Everyone". Again, to my surprise, no success.

The fix

If you are going to experience this kind of problem make sure to open Notepad as an "Administrator". You can do it by following the illustration below.

*Search for Notepad, right click it, then choose "Run as administrator". You can now open and save any text files that you want on a Notepad that you have opened as an administrator.

Why it happened?

Sometimes it is an issue of "Permission" or "Security" of the file or the application itself, in this case the app Notepad. Even if you are logged-in as an administrator this also happens for some reason. A malware can cause this issue. A problem on the computer's registry can also cause the problem.
