Home Secretary Karen Andrews said the return of international tourists to the country was "very close".

Saying that they are waiting for the final health advice decision, Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews announced that international tourists can come back to Australia in the coming weeks.

Almost two years have passed since the country closed its international borders to tourists. The domestic economy has been hit hard by the tourism sector and the decline in revenue from overseas visitors.
