My 76yr Old Mums Epic Scooter Trip Around Thailand

in Steem-Travelers2 years ago

Hi There #Steem-Travelers
I am sharing some pics of my mum's epic trip around Thailand on a scooter, she completed 2400km on her own scooter! I live in Thailand with my Thai wife and daughter and mum and my brother flew over from Scotland to join me on an epic 1-month scooter tour.

We started out in Kanchanaburi with myself and my wife, my mum and my brother and toured around for 1 week before flying north to Chiang Mai.

First stop was Tham Krasae which is an amazing part of the Death Railway and was built by prisoners of war during WW2. This is a beautiful location i have visited many times and a must-see for any travellers. You can stand right beside the train as it goes slowly past, this means you can get some great photos!

The next stop was the Hell Fire Pass Memorial Museum which is another must-see.
This is a section of the Death Railway, which was built during WWII with POW labour to cut through the mountain.
Hellfire, also known as Chong Khao Kad, is a location where the railway was required to cut through the mountain, which was nearly impossible, POWs and labourers were forced to carve the rock with hand drills, picks, and shovels so that a train could pass.
In 1943, the 500-meter-long pass was miraculously built in six months, despite the loss of many lives.

The next stop was Wat Tham Suea.
The Temple is constructed in magnificent Thai-Chinese architecture and houses a massive Buddha figure.

Next up was Wat Ban Tham, which has a beautiful cave inside.
There is a dragon tunnel stairway, which makes it distinctive.
Anyone who wants to enter the cave must walk up via the dragon stairs.
It's rather steep and it was extremely hot and a rest, plenty of water and ice cream were needed!

We spent a wonderful week in Kanchanaburi then took a fight north from Bangkok to Chaing Mai and spent the next 3wks having the time of our lives.
We went up and down so many mountains, saw hill tribes, jumped in lakes, got lost for hours whilst taking a shortcut over a mountain.
It was possibly the best tour I've ever done and mum cant wait to get back here!

We drove up from Chiang Mai to Chiang Dao and luckily only had rain for the last 10minutes of the journey.
I have stayed up here many times and I can't recommend The Nest, Chiang Dao highly enough as a great place to stay. They have an amazing menu, (my favourite is avocado and prawns), lovely little bungalows to stay in, massage and a pool.

After we left Chiang Dao and headed east towards Chiang Rai i persuaded mum to get dressed up and go pick tea at a tea plantation!

Perhaps folk would like more photos or more in depth details of our tour?
To Be Continued!
