Control. A microfiction for @jayna Micro-fiction contest

in #microfiction5 years ago (edited)

It's unusual for me to do two publications in a row, but I didn't want to @jayna's microfiction contest. The theme for this call is control.
There are still a few hours left to close and, if you feel like it, you can do it. Check the rules here. I think it's a fabulous contest, which forces us to prove our constancy as writers. I recommend it with enthusiasm.
I am grateful.

Control

Control is good for society. Without control, society would succumb to chaos. And our families would fall into chaos. Control is order. Cleanliness. Beauty.
“Next", said the head of the Sanitation Office at the Ministry of People's Power for Social Order in a stentorian voice. His white coat contrasted with his dark skin and the latex gloves and pale blue hat gave him a somewhat theatrical look. The syringe looked tiny in his fat hands.
The woman dragged her little son in by one arm. The boy bellowed and kicking. The woman, with sunken eyes and terrified face, tried to keep him straight and cover his mouth with very few results.
The official did not flinch. He asked the woman to approach him with an almost gentle gesture. When he had the boy in front of him, he punched him in the stomach. Efficient. Precise.
The boy vomited. His bellows fell silent. The syringe was inserted, professional, in the arm. The eyes of the child, whose body, suddenly soft, insisted on collapsing at the mother's feet, emptied of expression.
"Mother!", said the official. "What does our Great Leader think of order?" "It is beauty", said the mother with a cascading voice. "And what should you put in your house to contribute to the happiness of the people and our Leader?" "Control", said the mother with a tired voice.
"Don't forget, mother. Go with our blessing."
"Next!"

Well ... someone is not a very happy camper. Kids.

Wow, this is an intense story, @adncabrera. The poor mother who had to submit to the control of authorities and watch her son get punched in the stomach! I wonder what shot they gave him -- if it's something to control him or a vaccine. I hope our society does not ever head in this direction.

Thank you for your reading, @jayna. I also hope that no society goes to such extremes. To show horror is one of the social utilities of literature, to denounce, but also to warn us.
Evil exists and must be conjured before it grows.
A hug!
