Well, this extension helps to inspect any shortened link or even reveal those suspicious looking shortened links on webpages.
They usually start off with bit.ly, t.co, goo.gl & there are many others. When you click on the link first it takes you to a page that gives you a full URL in addition, it also lets you know that the site is safe or malicious.
If you want to continue on to the site just click the URL.
