In 1933 when Agha Khan was born, Zahir Shah began his Forty year reign of Afghanistan. Two young men, from a very reputable and wealthy family, were driving drunk and they killed a Hazara couple. The police brought the culprits and a five-year-old boy before the grandfather of Amir Jan, who was a highly regarded judge. He ordered the young men to go to Kandahar at once and enlist the Army for one year.
And he adopted the boy. That boy was Ali.

Ali and Agha Khan grew up together as playmates like Amir and Hassan grew up. They played every popular game together. They rode cycle together and whole winter the flew kites and run kites together.

On the birthday of Amir, his father Agha Jan bought him his favorite Kite and string. Hassan and Amir went out to fly the kite. Agha Jan and Rahim Khan were watching them above on a cafe shop flying the kites. When Agha Jan used to fly kites he had a record of cutting 14 kites at a time. One boy had cut 12 kites already. He wanted to break this record but Amir got his motive and flew his kite towards that boy. Then he cut him and many others. Agha Jan was watching this incident. He stood up and applauded Amir for cutting him. He was very happy for him that day.

Hassan ran for the kite for Amir. He wanted to catch that blue kite he cut for him.
On the way back a group of kids stopped Hassan and demanded that kite. He refused to give it to them and said this kite is for Hassan. But they beat him and assaulted him as he was a Hazara boy. Amir was watching this scene. He didn't want that to happen to Hassan. After that, he started avoiding Hassan as he brought shame to him. And this hate started increasing day after day. A few days later, he put his watch under the pillow of Hassan and blamed him as a thief in front of his father and Ali.

Agha Khan said:

I forgive Hassan

But Ali decided to leave the job as a punishment for Hassan's theft. Agha Khan ordered Ali not to leave the house. But Ali said:

We no longer obey you.

And they left the hours.
