It was surprising for me to find out that now we can understand an unknown language while doing a video call. This is great tech by the Microsoft.
But it can currently translate conversations in 10 languages which include English, German, Chinese, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic.
And text translator is available in more than 60 languages
Translator uses machine learning – which means that the more you use it, the "smarter" it becomes, and the better your experience will be. source
This translator is available on Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, and Linux operating systems.

Thanks for this Hunt, now I can claim that I can speak at least 10 languages ...albeit over Skype. LOL!
Hope many more languages would be added to it soon. This real time translation tech will ease all language barriers around the world and bring all humans closer than before. May this bless whole humanity with more understanding, peace, empathy and harmony among themselves!

When you think how far we've come in the last 10 years in personal communication, it's amazing. This would've been "sci-fi dream tech" not too long ago.
I've never used this product, but I have used translation software (not even real-time, which must work much harder) and some of the comical translations are fantastic. So, I can only imagine how some of these on-the-fly translated calls will go. A lot of puzzled looks between the two callers, as the software doesn't quite understand what's being said.
Having said that, if it's machine learning, and there's some kind of feedback to indicate the translation provided might be wrong, it will get better at its job over time.
Really interesting tech, and something I look forward to trying out. Especially as an Englishman (we're not the best at learning other languages).

Talking with people from other countries via skype, sometimes requires translation to understand what they are saying. The addition of the translation feature is needed in the Skype application. This is very helpful in understanding words that are difficult to understand. Supported with 60 languages, I'm sure this feature will make Skype more interesting.
Perhaps I am not that observant or this is totally a new feature on skype. Anyway, it is really an awesome feature and one that would come in handy for lot of folks. I've not used skype in a while, maybe it's high time I checked it out again
