in #romania7 years ago

The Transfăgărăşan Road is considered to be the most beautiful road in Romania and rightly so. Tens of curved tones, the panoramas of the Fagaras Mountains and the wonderful sights alongside make Transfagarasan a true holiday destination. If you also want to go through this route, we present all the tourist attractions you can visit along the Transfagarasan Road.

Where is Transfagarasan

The Transfăgărăşan or DN 7C road starts from Bascov , Arges County, near Piteşti. The route goes north and ends in Cârţişoara , 50 km from Sibiu and 104 km from Brasov. The route is 151 kilometers and goes up to the maximum altitude of 2042 meters at Bâlea Lac.

A 27-kilometer stretch of Transfagarasan is closed for eight months a year, in winter and spring, due to the danger of avalanches or rock fall. This is the area between 104 (Piscu Negru - Arges County) and 130,8 km (Bâlea Cascadă - Sibiu County). As a rule, the road is fully open in mid-June and closes at the end of October. In winter, from Bâlea Cascadă you can reach Bâlea Lac by cable car.

Vidraru dam

One of the most famous tourist attractions on Transfagarasan , the Vidraru Dam and Dam is a beautiful place where the wonders of nature blend harmoniously with one of the most impressive man-made structures. The Vidraru Dam was built in 1965 and at that time was ranked eight in the top of the highest in Europe. The dam has a height of over 160 meters, and the Transfagarasan road passes by the tunnel through the dam. The Capra Waterfall

Also known as the Waterfall of Iezer, the Capra Waterfall is located on the southern slope of Fagaras at 1960 meters altitude. The waterfall has a waterfall of over 40 meters, being supplied by the glacial lake of the same name. Because the waterfall has a very high flow, it does not freeze until the very heavy winters. To admire the Capra Waterfall in all its splendor, you have to climb the bridge set right in front of the waterfall.

Bâlea Lac

The most popular place on the Transfăgărăşan road is certainly Bâlea Lac . This is also the highest point along the route, so you do not have to wonder if you find snow around the lake , even in mid-August. This glacial lake is over 11 meters deep, and the area around it has been declared a scientific reserve. Here you will find a number of cottages, and in winter, an ice hotel with a bar and even a church, all built of huge blocks of ice out of the lake, is located near the lake.
