Scam: MyBtgWallet.com disappears with $ 3 million

More than $ 3 million has been stolen in recent days due to a new scam. mybtgwallet.com asked seeds and private keys to those who wanted to generate their Bitcoin Gold wallets, in the end to completely empty their wallets.

Bitcoin Gold: a laborious launch

You had already heard about the concerns that some miners had with Bitcoin Gold, even pushing a pool to close. Alas, here is a new pebble in Bitcoin Gold shoes. The team recommended its users to use a site to store their Bitcoin Golds: http://mybtgwallet.com/.
Bad surprise: the site mybtgwallet.com was in fact a scam to empty the wallets of its users. He was asked to enter his private key, or the seed of his wallet to generate a wallet for BTG. Shortly after, the user's wallet was emptied, and the currencies moved to various accounts.

One of the victims of the scam testified to CoinDesk:

"I came to this site by following the link on the bitcoingold.org official website, so I was confident. Yesterday afternoon, I realized that my BTC and my BTG kept on this purse had disappeared. Mikel Martin

When informed of the case, the BTG team launched an internal investigation, and said "working with security experts to understand the essence of the problem. "

As the investigation progressed, the name of John Dass became more and more redundant. Impossible to know if it is a pseudonym, however, mybtgwallet.com would have been developed by his care. Dass was also present on the Bitcoin Gold Slack, without being part of the official team. According to a spokesperson, no premeditation on the part of the BTG team, who sincerely believed in the merits of the Dass initiative.

"There was no formal relationship. He was actually interacting with our developers in Slack, about the development of his open source code and his website. The BTG Twitter account only supported an individual in the community who supported BTG - it was their only intention at the time. Edward Iskra

So, who is responsible? It seems that the team of BTG is not involved in this matter, and that it was manipulated by this false supporter. Remember that you NEVER share your private key or seed. Not even developers of a cryptocurrency. It would be like broadcasting your credit card number: a very bad idea.

Even though these assholes scammed people and they are shitty human beings with no moral compass, a small part of me has to give them props. You have to assume everyone is always trying to screw you. #staywoke
