Nine month's later…

A baby is born! Well, I'm sure a baby is born somewhere. In my case though, it's been nine months since my first and only post. I didn't really understand Steemit back then so I wasn't active. However, a good friend of mine has been active. Yesterday, we went and took photos at a wedding in another city. On the car ride both ways, he wouldn't stop talking about Steemit. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, I still don't really understand how Steemit works. But maybe I don't need to. Maybe I should just start using the platform and perhaps I'll just slowly start to understand it through osmosis. So now, I'll try to give Steemit another go.

It's been nearly a year since I joined Steemit. And boy, a lot can happen in a year, huh? Just for signing up, apparently my account's now worth around $150. Are you kidding me?! That's awesome! I've joined most of the major social media platforms since Friendster and MySpace. Facebook, in my opinion, is mostly just a waste of time. And my posts on Quora don't make any money depite getting hundreds or, in one case, thousands of upvotes. So none of those accounts are worth a penny. But my one and only post here on Steemit, with only 5 votes, made 8 cents. That's pretty cool, I think.

In any case, for me, it's not just about the money. I've always had an online presence. I used to be active on forums and bulletin boards. I used to contribute to open source projects. I used to play massive muli-player online strategy games. It's fun to give help to and receive help from people all over the world. Simply chatting and interacting is a lot of fun too. Sadly, I haven't done much of any of that lately. I guess I just miss being part of an online community. Hopefully, Steemit will get me more active again. Except…

It seems to me that Steemit is primarily about posting stuff. But writing and creating content is very difficult for me. For example, this post I'm writing right now feels like it's taking forever to finish even though it's not very long (so far) and doesn't really contain any meaningful or insightful information. One thing I like about Quora is that there's simply a question and you just answer it. With Steemit, it's a blog style. It's a showcase of your "work". So I feel that whatever I post should be worth it. Otherwise, what's the point?

I'm sure I'm making this much harder than it needs to be but I'm a bit of a perfectionist. It's not so much that my work needs to be perfect. It's more like I need things to be done in a certain way. So whatever I post needs to meet a certain level of quality. Not necessarily good quality; just my quality. In other words, I'm anal-retentive. Often times, it's crippling and prevents me from getting things done.

So, what was the point of this post? I suppose it's meant to be a bit of an "about me" page. Or maybe I just wanted post something (anything, really) to get the ball rolling again with this whole Steemit thing. Let's see how it goes this time around, nine months later...
