Wish I Was There
I'm supposed to be on holiday right this moment. I had been booked to visit one of the Canary Islands, but I cancelled so I can be of help to some members of my family that are moving cities. I'm not going to lie, I kind of wish I could have gone - especially looking at the weather right now. Family is higher priority for me though, than a holiday. Besides, Tenerife is not going anywhere.
I love the Canary Islands. It's kind of Europe in Africa - it's officially part of Spain, but it's geographically off the coast of North West Africa. As someone who has lived in Dakar, Senegal, the climate is very familiar to me. That breezy but hot and arid climate.
Lanzarote is one of the driest places I've ever been to. You can count the number of times it rains in a year on your hands. It reminds me of Mauritania a little, which is mostly Sahara. Tenerife isn't as dry, but full of beautiful palm trees and stunning coast lines.
That whole region is surfers heaven with the amazing waves that are generated by the strong winds. I remember the wind, because every time I fly to, or over that region, there's always turbulence. Always. Probably something to do with the cold winds of the North Atlantic interfacing with the warmer winds from the African mainland.
Anyhow, we're supposed to get some half-decent weather this coming weekend so maybe I'll spend some time outdoors, in my sister's garden pretending we're on a Spanish island somewhere.

Now I get your "visit" to my today´s post hehe :) I am sorry you had to cancel your holiday Ade but as you say, family should be a higher priority. Very kind of you. So you have already been to Tenerife? What areas? This island totally stole my heart. In fact, if it was not so expensive (for a nomadic couple on budget, I mean) we would still live there probably. Let me "take you" to my favorite Tenerife beach - Playa Bollullo - at least here on Steemit :)

Ahhh I love Tenerife. I love their local tiny 'family' restaurants where you can eat for a few euros and have a wine and you're welcomed like you've been part of their world forever. They also love it when you come in since it really is almost always family visiting, and they don't see strangers often.
Gosh now I want to go.

I have never been to Tenerife, even though my grandfather is Spanish and lives in Tenerife, he left when I was 5 years old. My mom did have the opportunity to go in 2002 and shared with my grandfather and his family. She really liked Tenerife.
It is a truly beautiful island. If you ever get a chance to go, I highly recommend it. Stay blessed.
