Steeman Down

The Bight of Bonny and The Bight of Benin are sister water bodies that are of possibly the greatest significance on the planet. It is a part of the world where the second largest ocean on earth is forced to change direction of flow.

It's got geometric significance significance because both the Equator and the Prime Meridian cross there.

It is quite literarily the "centre of the world."

In woo-woo terms, all the ley lines also converge there. The electromagnetic "equator" also crosses there. It's also the location of the weakest sea-level gravitational force on the planet.

The countries that have their coastlines along these bights are Gabon, Cameroon, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, and the appropriately named Equatorial Guinea.

Historically speaking, it is a body of water that is full of blood and bones, for many, many atrocities happened there. It is a historical, spiritual, electromagnetic, geometric and gravitational hot spot.

In this place, one of the most serene parts of the planet there is a giant problem. Apart from the electromagnetic fluctuations, Steeman detected an epic elevation of CO2 and CO gas in the atmosphere. He descended from the Stratosphere where he had been cruising at the speed of sound to 10,000 feet to take a closer look.

At this point he was flying over the Bight of Biafra, towards the Golf of Guinea when he saw the source of the problem. There were gigantic holes in the ground from whence pure natural gas was pouring out at millions of litres per minute. In order to break down the gas, and not poison all life form in the zone, the gas had been set on fire. Gas flaring!

Steeman pulled out some information from his visor. He was in the airspace of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Apparently the gas had been flared in this manner for decades. Astonishing! The amount of energy wasted in this practice alone, with some advanced technology, could probably solve the energy crisis that country seemed to be experiencing.

Steeman detected an uncharacteristically low level of electrical activity for such a large nation and densely populated cities. It appeared that instead of 3-4 electrical powerhouses, there were instead millions, yes millions of individual generators of electricity all over the country.

"That can't be right. Each home generates its own electricity? How inefficient", thought Steeman.

As if by cosmic irony, while Steeman was busy calculating how much electricity could be generated from the wasted natural gas, he was hit by something. His visor displayed 3 Megavoltes, before blacking out. "Lightning!?", that was Steeman's thought before falling out of consciousness and plummeting towards the ground.

Since entering the Biafran airspace, Steeman had come to the attention of one of the protectors of the zone - Amadioha. He's a god-like metahuman who is solar powered and has control of the electrical elements of the planet - lightning & thunder particularly. His motos are peace and justice.

He normally wouldn't take it upon himself to police the airspace, but since Thanos and Dr. Strange had unleashed metaphysical creatures unto the planet, he and other metahumans from other regions of West Africa had formed a team of metaphysical guardians of the zone. They take turns in looking over the airspace and spiritspace for anomalies and threats. Steeman, a humanoid entity with no "soul" lit up like a nuclear bomb on their radar.

Even though it was Amadioha's territory, it was actually the more volatile Ṣango (Shango) that hit Steemain with the bolt. He's powered by the planet Jupiter, hence he's more war prone than Amadioha. He has the same control over electricity and he's always glad to use it - a shoot first, ask questions later type of guy.
