Red Lady, Yellow Lady

There are many things that a street photographer looks for when trying to create photos on the street that tell stories or look good to the eyes. Of these things, light is the most important. There are also lines, layers, mirroring and of course colour.

I took these two photos while on a photo shoot with my friend Christy, which means I wasn't in "Street Photography" mode. I spotted these two ladies, and in each occasion having only 2-3 seconds to adjust my camera and grab the shot before they disappeared around the corner and the moment was lost. You can see that the composition has suffered a little because of this.

Normally, street shooters would find these interesting places and get ready. They would set their exposure, visualise what kind of person they want to be in the scene and compose for that in advance, and then just wait. Yes! They wait and wait and wait untill what they want happens.

Often though, something even more interesting than they envisaged actually occurs and they get amazing shots since they'd been diligent and prepared adequately.

Most of the greatest street shots have an element of luck, but when luck happens, the good street photographer is adequately skilled and prepared to capture it.
