I posted about "Adexit" yesterday, and in the post I kept going on about the Canary Islands. I'm sure a few people are wondering what the big deal is about the Canaries.

I'm going to make a number of posts highlighting why I'm crazy about this part of the world :)

Today I'm focusing on the first Island I visited - Lanzarote.

Riding

I don't cycle. I mean, I can cycle, but I'm not proficient enough to cycle on the road like other people that call themselves "cyclists" do. I wouldn't dare to cycle in London for example. I may attempt it in the countryside, but even then I'd be crapping myself throughout.

.. but look at me! This is how I got around on Lanzarote.

Of course I did take a taxi or bus when going across to the other side of the Island on a tour, but the day to day was done with one of these hired bikes. The roads are absolutely brilliant and safe with a lot of cycle lanes too. If a novice like me can do it and feel comfortable, that's saying something.

Swimming

My swimming is even worse than my cycling. Yes, I can just about stay afloat for about 3-5 minutes before getting tired and sinking to the bottom of the sea/pool, never to be seen again :)

..... yet look at me, floating on my back like a dolphin!

I love some of the beaches on Lanzarote. Apart from being blue as the Caribbean sky, far as the eyes can see, they're also extremely salty so it's much easier to stay afloat. Also, they're pretty shallow, so I can still stand and not drown even quite far in. Not all the beaches are like this, but there are quite a number of them. I wouldn't do this on a surfing beach, naturally, lest I be hit in the face by Surfermarley's board.

Sunshine

It's sunny on Lanzarote pretty much everyday. The temperature there isn't controlled by the presence or lack of sunshine, but rather the wind. It's a pretty windy Island, thank goodness, otherwise I think it'd be too hot anyway.

.....this is Timanfaya, one of the most arid places in the world!

It almost never rains on Lanzarote, which is ok by me. They locals have figured out how to survive in such a place. Agriculture still happens despite the lack of water and the incredible wind force that would make agriculture impossible fore most other places in the world. Lanzarote was the first place I've ever seen farmers build stone walls around rows of crops.

There are more reasons why I'd chose Lanzarote, but those are a few of them. The other reasons are mostly shared by the other islands too to be fair, which is why I can't go wrong with any of them.

I wonder what will happen if a whole bunch of us move to one of the smaller islands and make them start accepting Steem as local currency :)

Spent a month in Tenerife with the family a few years back. Love these photos and the Canary Islands!

This is me and the family tonight having a sundown picnic at the lake shore in Guatemala. Kinda feels like an island here.... and i know some businesses that accept steem around here 😉 .... just saying.... maybe an adexit to Guate😁

Looks blissful to be honest.
Where's all the MS13?

Oh yeah... the ms13 are just out of the frame of that picture... those serotes are having there own picnic just down the beach😜

The floating picture is great. I'm big fan of floating in the water like that.

Unlike you, I have no fear of sinking. That claim is backed up by physics. :)

I defy the laws of Physics in the water unfortunately. :)

Or your physique may be different from mine. :)

It may well be my density is lower than yours.

We're going there on New years Eve.. all booked and paid for!

Been before so know what to expect. There's a tasty derelict hotel on the west coast.., I'll be going to have a look.

Oh lucky you! Have fun and hope you're there for a while :)
Looking forward to some Canary Island UBEX :)

Looking forward to some Canary Island UBEX :)

Wish the family felt the same.. all I get is groans.

Haha. Send them off to the beach.. or to the Teguise market on Sunday :D

We are staying in that particular Costa, I hope it's not the equivalent of Benidorm.

Hahahah no, thankfully not. For one, there are hardly any buildings taller than two storeys on Lanzarote (by law), so that has controlled the look and feel as well as population of the place.

I would seriously consider moving there. Great idea 🙋‍♂️💪

I may make this happen next year. Looking pretty likely :)

That sounds so beautiful man. Like for real I feel warmth around my heart, just by visualizing

I hope this idea will evolve in something huge

It's easier to swim in this salty water. It's easier than swimming in fresh water.
